These are no longer classrooms. They are battlegrounds. The teacher could have gone to the principal. Besides...what is a kid doing in class with a video camera anyway? Who's in charge? The kids or the adults? Then we express total shock when we see the kids here are behind everyone else. We just push them through from grade to grade until they "graduate" and then what? They are out in the world with no knowledge whatsoever. Not so funny then.

What I want to know is how a teacher can not know that a fight in the classroom is occuring?

How long time we hear about what a sad life the 10th grader has, how his father is either gone or a drunk who beats him, how his mother blah blah blah...

The kid should be kicked out of the school. Let the little punk go be the new kid somewhere else and hey... bring the camera.

"Why is a student bringing a video camera to school?"

For self-defense, sounds like!

For argument sake , lets say the teacher saw this after it started, went back to the fight grabbed the kid throwing the punches, the kid then punches the teacher and the teacher then knocked the living sheet out of the punk,

You know like when we were in school.back in the 50's.

1. the teacher would have been fired. 2. the kid doing the beating would have gotten off Scott free.
3. the teacher would have to hire a lawyer for the law suit. 4. The teacher forever after would be branded as a child abuser.

This is Cleveland, so it really doesn't count as Ohio.

The teacher should be disciplined and the school should be put under a microscope. There is no way a teacher could fail to notice this unless it was so common place as to be truely disturbing.

Hey, I had a kid once choke me in class near the front of the room. I quickly stood up and punched him 3 or 4 times before anyone could stop me. He ended up on the floor and suspended, I ended up finishing the class and moving on. Point is the teacher couldn't have done anything to stop it unless he was right by me. BTW the kids had some mental issues.

I'm going to have to side with you on this one. You can't tell me the teacher was completely unaware that something bad was happening in the classroom. If he was, that's gounds enough right there to give him his walking papers.

The kid throwing punches should spend at least a few months time in jail. I saw part of the video, and it was way over the top.

The video also has two other incidents, one of another assault and the other of a boy exposing his buttocks, according to the report. Those incidents are also being investigated.

Think Toady a la "Christmas Story" . How can you be a proper bad a$$ without someone recording your exploits.

I heard some other kids distracted the teacher.

They probably showed Farenheit 911 to him/her.

From now on all buttocks will be registered or confiscated!

Yea, I’m an old fart, but I can’t imagine a student allowed to bring a camcorder into a classroom – unless it’s a Visual Arts Class. I also can’t imagine a teacher with so little control of the class.
I guess that’s why I didn’t become a teacher.

You know like when we were in school.back in the 50's.

Way back when I was in high school the teacher was next to God. I remember a student who tried to break bad. He was straight from George Junior Republic (the local J.V. Detention Center) who started a fight. Ben Micelli was the teacher. He smacked the JD, picked him up from the floor, tossed him into the hall and threw him down the stairs desk and all. We seldom had any problem with violence in that school.

Aren't teachers forbidden to touch students in order to break up a fight? I thought all they were allowed to do is threaten to fetch someone who can beg more convincingly.

I agree! When I sub, I know what is going on, and the kids know it.

Sounds like a very good idea, considering what goes on in some classrooms.

The superintendent of a school district in Ohio where a student beating another student was caught on tape said the teacher is not at fault.

That's what happens when you drive SUV's.
