You should rename yourself Redbeard.

Okay, maybe not quit as bad as the UN....I don't think it was involved with the Oil for Food bribes.

Darn, I forgot some zeroes. The CEO of the Red Cross business makes $400,000 a year in salary. And it is a business, not a charity, despite what folks think.
The RC even has union members. Yes!

The CEO of Red Cross makes 4K a year salary.
And oversees a 4 billion per year operation.
On the other hand I read a few years back that Billy Graham took something like $70,000 per year but then Graham isn't in it for the money either.
I'm no great defender of the Red Cross, what got me on this was the "80%" admin costs being bandied about. Well, I looked it up and posted a link - It's 04% admin costs. People can put down the Red cross all they want. But I wish they would do it without falsifying figures. - It doesn't help their cause.

You have a nice night Nick - If that's your name. My youngest grand son is named Nick - he's ornery too.

Always been ornery, s'pose I always shall be. You have a nice evening, there, yourself.

When one gives through the church relief organizations, generally every penny goes directly to the cause. The administrative expenses are absorbed by the organization itself from other funds donated to the churches.

Even I make more than 4K

the last line of the Red Cross page linked in post 167:
This report is not to be used for fund raising or promotional purposes.
Now that's a curious bit of legal boilerplate for a document with very
respectable metrics for a charity organization.

Hi kayak. I think what you say is probably true. When a charity becomes a business, it should automatically become suspect and held to account for all its funding and "administrative" expenses, to ensure that ALL or a HUGE portion of the money its collecting is actually being used for the purpose(s) for which it solicits that money.

Besides the outing of the RC by the 9/11 fiasco...ask a vet of any war what they think of the RC.

I live in Cambodia and know the people from Catholic Relief Services in addition to the other organizations. CRS has the best reputation in town and is well known for having an effective aid distribution network, in addition to ensuring the bulk of all donation go directly to the need, rather than administration.

I just asked myself your question and I still like the Red Cross.

I know that given your profession that you know C.P.R. but I didn't until the Red Cross taught me a few years ago but they charged me $15.
Who knows, I may save a life some day.

I don't have strong feelings either way, as I said before, I'm just taken aback by the inaccurate numbers.
