Will Republicans seize the opportunity?
The American Thinker ^ | Dec. 30, 2004 | Christopher G. Adamo

Political operatives on both sides of the aisle are discussing the 2008 election as if it were only days away. But this seemingly premature preoccupation is hardly a dismissal of the important issues facing President Bush in his second term. Rather, this talk of the next presidential race is representative of the pivotal changes in the political landscape that occurred last November.

Unfortunately, the forces of “moderation” are still at work within the GOP, threatening to undermine the tremendous gains made by conservatives in the elections. Arnold Schwarzenegger contends that the Republican Party should move “to the center” (which means to the left) on social issues.

Voices from within the RNC contemplate running a social “moderate” as the best means of countering a potential Hillary candidacy. And political strategist Dick Morris warned against GOP senators playing hardball in response to Democrat filibusters of judicial nominees.

But although the Republican Party cannot afford to become arrogant and heavy handed in the wake of its recent victories, neither should it be fixated on gaining the approval of its political rivals, or the avoidance of controversy.

I am afraid that the Republicans don't get it. Just like the Rats don't get it why they lost this time. I voted for Bush because GWOT was the only issue I considered.

But from now on out it's immigration. If Hillery gets tough on it - good for her. And if the Republicans don't then the hell with them. Hillery will get my money and support even if it's just to prove a point. I do not care what her other positions are. She can seize every gun in America and appoint Karl Marx to the Supreme Court for all that I care.

I WANT ACTION ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION WHATEVER THE SOURCE!

Someone needs to grab Karl Rove, slap him hard and yell "Wake up!"

"President Bush remains devoted to an immigration policy that, aside from minor window dressing, amounts to “open borders.” In the best of times, a plan of this nature can be detrimental to national cohesiveness. But, with America facing the ongoing threat of terrorist incursions, such an approach verges on the suicidal."

Thats right GOP!

the Republicans better take advantage of this majority to push through the legislation the people who voted for them want passed.

Such as an amendment codifying the death penalty into the Constitution so scumbag rapists and murderers cant claim that it's cruel and unusual punishment and the Supreme Court cant agree with them.

i cant WAIT to see the look on O'Conner's face when the amendment is passed.

She would take the guns, kill the republicans and replace them with cheap easy to rule illegals.

It also seems to me that Karl and the GOP have designs on something beyond the obvious disregard for our borders. Driving down labor rates and having a bigger pool for the coming draft( or at the very least more young men out of work and ripe for volunteer service) apparently is more important than our national security. I however have trouble finding any sense in yet another opposing policy action like this one which is sovernitity vs. big business.

You sound like kind of a one issue voter. I'd keep in mind that Hilliary's tough talk on immigration probably has about as much relevance to her views on immigration as John Kerry's campaign hunting photo ops had to his views on RKBA.

It's hard for me to believe that she, or any other RAT politician, would oppose an influx of RAT voters.
