BUT, as professor Victor Davis Hanson (not a racist xenophobe or right wing wacko) has pointed out, there is a difference now. This crop of immigrants don't want to become Americans as prior generations once did. They don't want to assimilate and will balkanize this country and fracture the culture.
If we could assure only "A" students then I would be cool with that but the fact is we don't limit it that way.

Okay, I'll give you may A student son. Who happened to clip out of a year of college by taking AP classes. However, because he was in the top 20% of his class as opposed to the top 10%, he didn't qualify to attend a state university. (Unlike his "undoucmented" A student counterpart. AND... he was in the top 4% of his class until we were transfered to Houston... a much large school district.) My son has a right to a spot in a state college before any "undoucumented" kid if for no other reason he is the product of generations of TAXPAYERS. But, hey, crazy me....
