I still believe this country is very compassionate and the credo still applies.

BUT, as professor Victor Davis Hanson (not a racist xenophobe or right wing wacko) has pointed out, there is a difference now. This crop of immigrants don't want to become Americans as prior generations once did. They don't want to assimilate and will balkanize this country and fracture the culture.

If we could assure only "A" students then I would be cool with that but the fact is we don't limit it that way.

The cartoon is a distorted juxtaposition and a lie.

Yes it is, and check out where the "cartoon" links to.

What is CADENA? As a formal movement, CADENA began with a moment of realization on a high school campus in the state of Arizona approximately one year ago. A director of a program that serves English language learners had summoned two students to her office. Her purpose was to correct misbehavior, let the students know that their academic success was important, and generally motivate them to apply themselves.

They listened to her with a somewhat sullen endurance, until she asked them why they thought she was talking to them this way. When there was no response, she told them, "Because you are important. We care about you; about your future."

This was too much for one of the students. "No you don't!" he shouted. " Somos pobres mexicanos. (We are poor Mexicans.) No one cares about us. Why should we try? If we get good grades and graduate, we don't have money for college."

Here the director tried to interject, "But if you have good grades, you can get scholarships or loans."

"No we can't. We can't even get a job or a driver's license." The second student chimed in to say that a friend of his was paying his way through community college and had tried to get a job at Circle K, but was turned down for lack of a social security number. "Even if he graduates from college, he can't get a job at Circle K," the student added bitterly.
