Bush Undermining UN with Aid Coalition.
Should read, "Bush plans for victims to get aid rather than line UN pockets. Kofi is saddened."

Do we really want an organization as corrupt as the UN to spearhead relief efforts? Do we want them to control billions of relief dollars?
NO!!

We need to make sure the aid gets to the survivors and not in the pockets of the UN non tax paying bureaucrats. I support the President in his decision.

Well, of course, Claire you brass-plated ninny. Yes, President Bush is undermining the UN by running aid through a coalition led by Australia.
The point is to get the aid from the US (whether private or governmental gifts) to the people who need it as efficiently as possible. That purpose would be "undercut," to borrow your word, Claire, if the billions in aid had to pass through the bigoted, incompetent, dishonest fingers of Kofi Annan, Jan Egeland, and the like before heading for Asia.
If you're capable of reading and learning, Claire, click below and keep your mind open to the possibilities.

I think this initiative from America to set up four countries claiming to coordinate sounds like yet another attempt to undermine the UN when it is the best system we have got and the one that needs building up, she said. Only really the UN can do that job, she told BBC Radio Fours PM programme.
It is the only body that has the moral authority......"
the un the only body that has moral authority?! what planet is she on? has she never heard of the Oil for food debacle or the sex scandals? how about Africans being slaughtered while Kofi and his ilk look on? pathetic.

The UN is too corrupt. It's soldiers would probably withhold food from starving victims until they got sex.

All of these nations have what I call the "liberal disease." They don't do things because they're the right thing to do. They only do them because they get the credit for doing those things. And when someone else gets more credit, they get nasty.
To: Congressman Billybob
Well said...besides that- Kofi's major announcement at his press conference this afternoon is that the UN will hold a meeting...NEXT week (got to have those elegant, lovely New Year's Eve parties in Manhattan).
Oh- and he said - offhandedly- the magnitude of the disaster is so great that even with all the aid coming from across the world- it may not be enough to save millions of people.
What a take-charge kind of guy, eh?

Hey, Short is actually losing about 10% of everything that does not pass through UN hands! Let's be understanding, here!! Where is your Christian charity.
There has never been good UN accounting for any of their programs. They just set up a numbered account at some upper east side bank and ask that contributions to the program be sent to that numbered account. There is no accountability. Sometimes, the money is sent to an account one digit off and then there may be a fight to get it back. The UNer can dip into his program's account for funds to pay the tuition at an exclusive school up above Van Cortland Park for one of the children of his mistress and no one would ever know!
Stickey fingered UNers need to have cash pass through their hands so they can skim the 10% they are due!!

The UN: too slow, too corrupt and too arrogant to be trusted when lives are at stake.
Truth hurts Koffi.

I support any efforts by our leadership to undermine the UN.
We are Americans - we value honesty and fair play.
Thieves and liars get none of the respect the UN kleptocrats demand. We used to HANG horse thieves and cattle rustlers on sight. Be warned.
