DO NOT GIVE A PENNY TO THE RED CROSS. Remember well their vicious lies about how America is "torturing" detainees at Guantanamo, and how they allow their ambulances to be used to transport terrorists from Gaza to Fallujah, and how past investigations have shown how few pennies on the dollar donated to them actually go to the victims of disasters.

Also do not give to the pro-gay United Way, and pro-abort UNICEF. Give only to Christian organizations with a presence in Southeast Asia if you dont want your money wasted. Or, better yet...don't give anything at all! these are hardly poor nations, having benefitted from billions in wealth transfers by outsourcing of American jobs.

About 8 years ago I was trying to decide on what agency to donate for some plight. Finally settled on Mercy Corp. For the 2 years after my donation I was bombarded with solicitation from them, at least weekly. I still get solicitations from them. I'm sure the cost of their junk mail, just to me, has surpassed my donation. Which made me wonder, how did any money go to the intended needy?

That's what always makes we wonder about the organization(s). I don't mind giving. I just want the victims to get more than one nickle of my dollar.

American taxpayers "donated" $1.1 trillion in aid and welfare last year to Americans. (Source: the OMB and the U.S. Budget).

This does not count the $230 plus billion given to private charities.

Any taxpayers who donate money to the Red Cross is a fool.

For you nontaxpayers, donate to your heart's content.

This country and its citizens have absolutely nothing to apologize for.

Thanks for the ping.

For the record, much of the stingy hullabalu was fueled by none other than former Kerry foreign policy advisor, Leslie Gelb. Her comments appeared in the original Washington Post article than ran immediately after the UN's Egeland's false declaration.

That's why I like the Salvation Army.

Many on my grandmother's side of the family were Salvation Army officers and I can assure you the relief workers in the Salvation Army aren't getting rich off the contributions of others.

It is a GUY and he's been on every single cable channel, carping at Bush; he was a Carter appointee.

And he is the ONLY one who is saying the stuff he's saying, so they are all using him, even the WashPost.

GFA (Gospel for Asia) is an exceptional organization. Our former neighbors and still dear friends both work for the ministry in the U.S. Like mentioned before, they do not draw a salary from the ministry, but instead are supported by family, friends and church members. http://www.gfa.org/gfa/urgent

Now that I've looked at his picture, it seems you could slap a wig on him and he'd look just like Helen Thomas.

Well... I know this is unappropiate, but how much are the other countries spending in charities? Comparisons are frivolous at the moment, but interesting nevertheless.

100% of the donations to Gospel for Asia go directly to the field for Disaster Relief.

Samaritan's Purse typically works with nationals who are able to distribute and have accountability sytems. GAF is also good.

Good points! They deserve to be repeated!

I recommend worldvision.org. Low overhead. Hugh Hewitt recommends it also.
