The Bush administration has appeared somewhat flatfooted in its response to the Asian crisis.

And that's as opposed to rushing in and not thinking things through, first.

"As the world scrambled to the rescue, survivors fought over packs of noodles in quake-stricken Indonesian streets Wednesday while relief supplies piled up at the airport for lack of cars, gas or passable roads to move them."

What's worse is that these shameless leftist media outfits are GINNING UP the disaster, probably to get more money into the International Red Cross and Red Crescent, where they won't have to account for the free millions - maybe spend a little on the Indian sub-continent and surrounding, but no more than that.

Take for example the ABC special ("Tsunami: Wave o Destruction") that ran tonight. About 20 minutes into it, what did we see but a torrent of water seeming to rush over a dike, as people on bikes fled. It was a brief shot. But it wasn't in Indonesia. It was Red China! And it happened four years ago!

Just . . DAMN! (as they say)

These people don't care a bit about the death, and the dispossessed. It's all about the free gubment money, for a good cause - without any independent audit or oversight. UNICEF, International Red Cross, Red Crescent. Direct beneficiaries. And if they can find photos of the Alaska quake, they'll show those too, in quick clip fashion.

There's another thread on FR where it's pointed out that the Salvation Army has an international outreach. Funny that no one mentions that on the LM. Maybe the 'trustable Pete Jennings' doesn't trust them? Who knows?

I have a question for all the whining internationalists who somehow think evil rich greedy America should come running to the rescue.

Since India and Thailand are now capable of competing with us in the world marketplace, even to the extent that American workers here have been displaced by foreign workers over there (and yes, that *does* include Thailand, for a fact), doesn't that indicate that those countries are now our economic equals and therefore should be able to PAY THEIR OWN WAY in this crisis?

In fact... if the answer to that is "No", and that we should be helping them out even if they are now our economic equals, doesn't THAT mean that in reciprocal fashion they should be sending *US* money whenever *WE* have a natural disaster? (Like, ferinstance, 114,466 hurricanes in a row in Florida this year?????)

HMMMMMM???????
