If you believe, along with him and John Calvin, that God involves himself in the workings of the world and all our lives, then you are always going to be vulnerable to the accusation that you think you have some sort of divine mandate.

What a load of bull feathers! The only people who think they have a divine mandate are those that either define God the way they want Him to be, or decide that there is no higher authority then themselves. Many of us who believe God involves Himself with the workings of the world hold that such work is beyond our comprehension, and we are only a small part of a great mandate that we can not fully see. Thus we approach the concept of divine mandates with an appreciation for or own personal limitations.

I read this article Monday. It seems pretty even handed for the Economist, which leans liberal in religious matters.

What I like is that the Economist objectively concludes that President Bush is NOT too religious, given the context of American Presidents.

Anyone who asks the question, "Is Bush too religious?" is a bigot.
