As the Asian quake and tsunami death toll topped 100,000 and is rising, President Bush said the United States' initial grant of $35 million in SE Asia was 'only the beginning of our aid.' He said the United States, India, Australia and Japan have formed an international coalition to coordinate worldwide relief and reconstruction efforts for the Asian region. Aid agencies today warned disease will also cause massive casualties among the survivors as the biggest relief effort in history began.
The president took issue with Jan Egeland, the United Nations' emergency relief coordinator who called the US "stingy" in regard to helping other nations. (Egeland later said his remarks were misinterpreted.) Bush noted that the United States provided $2.4 billion "in food, in cash, in humanitarian relief to cover the disasters for last year. ... That's 40 percent of all the relief aid given in the world last year."
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
RE: Pork chops . . . great minds think alike! Mine will be browned and in a sauce, but still, same species.
Did your sister who had the preemie last summer come? How is the baby?
Right now I'm glad my kids are at the age they're at--I don't do wellw ith the pressure of being Santa and doing all the extra Christmas stuff. OTOH, they're both definitely entering adolescence, and I know that'll be a whole new ballgame . . . we're doing OK so far . . .
I'm glad you had a good time with Brandon! I bet Mike was beyond happy to share this Christmas with all of you, too.
I'll check them out. They're so pitiful some days . . . there's speculation many/most are FReepers just egging them on . . .
Gosh, I'm NEVER going to get those pork chops done!
Well, I considered many options and decided for the sake of peace to just be quiet and smile. And yes it took restraint. Rest assured there will be another venue for addressing their charges - I hope. But nothing seems able to soothe the hatred.
Cspan is supposed to re-air the President's comments on the Tsunami disaster at 9:35 PM.
That was my niece...and yes, Jacob was here...a real porker(LOL) he'll be 1yo Feb 27th....looking at him now you'd never know he was a preemie.
That's so Wonderful, Homemom! We really could be Moving into our New Homes at just about the Same Time! I Wish you and your Family all our Lord's Best and Gracious Blessings!
My Story is a little Complicated; during the Week, Hubby and I will be at our new Home, but on the Weekend, we'll still be Staying at our little Trailer! :(
So I'm having to get some new things for the House, plus I'm taking my Extra dishes, blankets, etc there. I have enough Dishes for two families!
Mmmm. Pork chops, yum. It wouldn't surprise me at all if some FReepers are being mischievous over at the DUmp. PJ's comments are pretty funny.
I Feel for you, dear FRiend, and I Admire you, too, for your Reserve at the Table.
Thank Goodness the Meal was already Long Over when Politics came up at my Moma's House! My poor Relatives (except for my Moma and Stepdad) believe Absolutely Everything the Godless, Athiest Democrat Media Shovels out to them!
It doesn't have to be subterranean. I've been in many secured rooms in my life. They can't have windows, and the walls have to be thick enough so that no one can eavesdrop through the electronics equipment. Controlled access, too, of course.
I wouldn't think they'd have a subterranean bunker there. After all, planes can't fly over, and no one can drive anywhere near it. He doesn't need the protection from harm, just protection from eavesdroppers.
I like it when he's at the ranch. That and Camp David are the safest places for him to be. Even more so than at the WH.
Thank you for the Link! I'm going there now to Look at it.
do you have a link to that du thread?
I saw Lynn Cheney on Fox. I thought she was really naive. Chris Wallace asked her about Howard Stern, and she said she'd never heard him, but she had listened to Imus, so she didn't think talk radio was so bad.
There's a mountain of difference between Stern and Imus!! I've heard Stern maybe twice, and he might not always be that bad, but I don't need to chance it. I often listen to Imus - he can be outrageous, but he isn't a "potty-mouth" like Stern.
It is a wonder. Their propaganda machine is a well oiled system for sure.

How are you and Mike doing mystery? Did you get a lot of snow?
We're doing great...no snow, not a white Christmas..just had bitter temps....thanks for the link.
Their utter hatred is very disturbing. I think part of it is fear of what he stands for. Truly good vs. evil.

Jacob George, isn't it? I'm glad he's doing well. I didn't realize it was almost a year!
. . . was listening to Toby Keith sing "An American Soldier" as I read your post (CMT is carrying his concert live from Ft Hood) . . . hearing this song reminded me that I was quite remiss not to have wished you and Mike a VERY Merry Christmas before leaving for NW Ohio . . . the two of you certainly deserved an AWESOME Christmas after Mike's tour of duty last year in Iraq . . . you two (as well as OhioWFan and her son) are genuine American HEROS!!!
Finally caught up with you......Didn't even try to get out today....the snow slid off the roof of the porch and covered the path that took two days to shovel.....But it's melting and we'll be out for sure tomorrow.....
WOuld have loved to have a few left overs.....We haven't figured out when/if we'll be able to have "Christmas".....February might be nice!
Today's my son's birthday and next weeks is dad's . WIll do something to celebrate when we get together....I love snow, but not when it keep you from spending "quality time" with those we love!
