Also needs noting, that France is the World's 5th largest economy, so it's not as if they couldn't afford it.

Egeland, a Norwegian, seemed particularly offended by the $35 million offered Monday by the Bush administration. That is likely just a first installment and nearly nine times the initial pledge of the European Union, which has a bigger economy. Still, Egeland believes more would be available if Western nations would just raise taxes.

How much, or little, has Norway sent? Does Egeland pay US taxes?

Speaking of American generosity, they had an interesting little tidbit on CNN a while ago. According to them, American Muslims aren't donating the way they could be out of fear the charities they donate to might get them in trouble. And apparently many of these Muslim Americans are disinclined to give to non-Muslim charities. They'll either give to certain charities, which may or may not be on a watch list, or they won't donate at all. If true, how nice, eh?

The U.S. is, of course, to blame for all the world's ills. But when disaster strikes, who always renders aid?

This is the way of the world. As a wise old Jewsih friend of mine used to say: "Why does he hate me -- I never gave him anything?" If you help someone out with financial aid, that puts him in an inferior position to you in his eyes; he resents that, of course, and dislikes you for it.

Giving charity is a requirement of Islam. I saw a Muslim site today. People were writing in about how to give for the Tsunami.

These people are wanting to help the victims, not the terrorists.

The $10 billion cited in the article is the tip of the iceberg. That figure can't possible be the amount of foreign aid in all of its forms. If the real magnitude were better known, the bureaucrats would be in constant fear of their losing their hides.
