The family of a young woman whose September 2003 death was linked to the abortion pill are now suing the manufacturer of the drug and Planned Parenthood, according to Austin Ruse of the Culture of Life Foundation.
Shortly after her eighteenth birthday Holly Patterson took Mifeprex (RU-486. She was rushed to the hospital for terrible pain, heavy bleeding, and cramps. Three days later, she returned to the hospital where she subsequently died.
The autopsy revealed that her death was "due to endomyometritis (inflammation)" caused by "therapeutic, drug-induced abortion."
According to Ruse, the FDA has received 676 reports of problems in relation to the drug. These reports include 72 cases of blood loss requiring blood transfusions and seven cases of serious infection.
So the FDA on November 15 strengthened the warning label in order to protect women who might not know some of the dangers of this drug.
Meanwhile, in September of 2004, Planned Parenthood assured its readers that more than 280,000 American women have used the drug in the past four years and that, "Millions more have used it worldwide under other brand names. Overwhelmingly, women have praised mifepristone as a safe, noninvasive, and private way to end an unintended pregnancy."
They further re-assure their followers that, "Wielding medical misinformation to achieve political aims, anti-choice ideologues and organizations continue to deny mifepristone's safety and efficacy, despite scientific proof to the contrary."
A spokesman for Mifeprex maufacturer Danco Laboratories said, "no causal relationship between the use of the Mifeprex regimen and the unfortunate death of Ms. Patterson has been established."
Well I'm glad the liberals have finally found a drug manufacturer that they like.
It's a shame the girl died, but sometimes you reap what you sow. It's pretty amazing how quick the story was squelched after it was first reported. No agenda there.
Maybe Edwards will take this case on contingency, LOL!
Good one! Score!
The baby was aborted as advertised.
"Shortly after her eighteenth birthday Holly Patterson took Mifeprex (RU-486)."
Bet I know what she got for her birthday.
D'you reckon that this story, as well as Mifeprex maufacturer Danco Laboratories, will be in Michael Moore-on's next hit piece about "Big Pharma"? Ha! Not likely.
So it's okay if the drug kills the baby, but not okay if it kills the mother?
turnabout is fair play sue the left into bankruptcy.
And what's the FIRST thing this family thinks of after losing TWO lives, their Daughter and Grandchild??
To sue for MONEY.
Sick!
Sue em both for more than they have. Put them both out of business.
And that's what Bush is trying to stop, lawsuits.
Do you really think that suing a drug maker over that pill will eliminate that pill?
Do you really think it will stop planned parenthood?
These people who can only think lawsuits and money should have raised that daughter better and maybe they would still have both their daughter and grandchild.

Mmmm, the ad makes them look tasty and a joy to take, too.
How many people were actually killed by Vioxx? It was pulled off the market at incredibly huge expense by Merck, though I have not heard of any deaths directly attributed to it. RU486 (or is it Xyklon B) is a proven killer.
Its ironic that there is made such a big stink about drug safety and then this drug is still on the market.
I think you are replying to #14 and not me.
...but I agree with your sentiments none the less.
I had my tooth pulled today and had to sign a paper acknowledging that something could happen that would cause me to die. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY WITH EVERY DRUG AND EVERY PROCUEDURE.
