Soon we will be approaching a time when "We the People" must be heard because of government inaction with regard to immigration enforcement. And when "We the People" voice our opinion, the government of course, will not approve.
It would seem that our elected politicians should be outraged by the apparent willingness of a federal government that allows illegal aliens to roam free in this country. I know I'm frustrated, and every citizen should be.
Sadly, with the exception of Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner, Tom Tancredo, Dana Rohrabacher, Virgil Good, to mention "a few good men" serving in Congress, who have stepped up to the plate to show concern and to demand action from this Administration to stop the massive invasion of lawbreakers, our concerns are not represented in Congress. Are we to conclude that those who have not spoken up approve of our country being invaded with illegal aliens, or are they just "chicken little cowards?" Either way these cowards shouldn't be in office pretending to represent us, because they do not. And these same cowards shouldn't take for granted the tenacity of "We the People" or underestimate our willingness to do what needs to be accomplished to preserve the sovereignty of this country.
It's very clear that there are devious and vigorous forces that want to continue the flow of illegal aliens into this country. The race is on and this administration is gearing up to push through yet another amnesty against the will of the people. Our "Here We Go 'Round the Amnesty Bush" President, needs a wake-up call and it may just have to come from Senator Hillary Clinton.
HINT. HINT.
If Hillary wants to spearhead opposition to this she WILL carry the Southwest in 2008.
Not really that devious; it's clear the illegal employers and cheap labor are being protected. Mexico also is quite open about doing nothing at the border, except that they hand out a little "tip sheet" to illegals, outlining how not to die in the desert or drown in the Rio Grande.
. . .this administration is gearing up to push through yet another amnesty against the will of the people.
You can absolutely count on it. GWB is totally deaf and blind to We the People. We saw it coming a long time ago, though. The elder Bush also was not beholden to any constituency; we only serve to get them elected. The Bush family are liberals, and they have personal sentimental ties with Mexicans. Look up the bios.
Dubya is the "compassionate conservative." We who support even-handed enforcement of immigration laws vis a vis Mexican (and Central American) illegals are lacking in compassion.
Our "Here We Go 'Round the Amnesty Bush" President, needs a wake-up call and it may just have to come from Senator Hillary Clinton.
Ugh.
So called 'Conservative' Senators pretty much told 'We the People' what they really thought of them on the Specter chairmanship debacle...
The Govt. elite have revolted against the people and the Constitution.. no longer content (as if they ever were) to be servants of the people... they have declared themselves King...In their own minds 'we the people' have been relegated to the position of subjects....neither competent nor fit to rule...
Blue State Red State is really not relevent...
imo
The illegal immigration problem in this country will lead to bloodshed, rioting in the streets, and proving your citizenship to a mob.
This IS the hot button issue for the next 4 years.
I probably have a mixed opinion on this issue. Yes, we should honestly secure our borders in a more thorough fashion. Making big law and order noises by calling for punishment of illegal aliens is hypocritical...actually when was the last time Sensenbrenner picked lettuce? Unfortunately we rely on these folks to do the work American citizens don't want to do. On the other hand the attitude of Vicente Fox is outrageously ballsy, but is anyone putting him in his place?
Question...will you pick lettuce, or your kids??? Who will???
Sadly, what you say is true, and even worse, the GOP has asked for it with their complete and utter disregard for public opinion on the matter in a misguided attempt to out-pander the Dems for the support of latinos.
Of course it should be said, that Hillary would not actually do anything about it either. I mean, why would she want to stop the supply of future Dem voters once another amnesty goes through? But its a sad commentary on the inaction of the GOP that simply talking about it is enough to differentiate herself from the ruling party which has been an abyssmal failure on this matter.
And Hillary knows full well that the radical ethnic interest groups will not attempt to tar and feather her as they would a real conservative because they know she isn't being serious. But even if they did, it wouldn't matter as Hillary's media allies would shield her from such attacks by not giving credence to them as they would against a Republican. In fact they'd probably praise her for having the courage to address the issue that sends so many politicians running for cover.
In short, it is a perfect issue for Hillary to latch onto and make her own. And if the Federal Courts do her a favor and refrain from imposing gay marriage/civil unions until after 08 then she'll also be shielded from that since by then even more states will have "settled" the issue for themselves.
I fear the GOP will reap what they have sown.
Of course the price for the marginally cheaper lettuce is a demographic shift that w/o question favors the Democrats.
We have one senator who stood up and tried to make sense of this. Jim Inhofe (R) Oklahoma. www.inhofe.senate.gov
INHOFE SAYS INTELLIGENCE REFORM BILL OVERLOOKS MAJOR ISSUES
Wednesday, December 8, 2004
WASHINGTON--U.S. Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.) today voted against the final passage of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (S.2845), which was eventually approved by the Senate (89-2).
"Today I joined the majority of our Oklahoma delegation in voting against the final passage of this bill," Inhofe said. "While there where many provisions I agreed with, unfortunately there were also glaring omissions that where impossible to overlook and caused me to oppose final passage.
"Stripped from the final version of this bill were five provisions that I felt were absolutely imperative to include in this reform package. Once you pass a bill, you lose your leverage to get those things that were controversial back in the bill. I do not have any doubt that the Speaker would bring this up at the beginning of the next Congress, but I have serious doubts that once passed in the House that those five areas that I have outlined would be corrected in the Senate. "Many people would be outraged to know that there is a 3.5 mile gap in our fence line with Mexico that exists solely to preserve the environment of five birds that are protected by the Endangered Species Act. The provision in the bill to patch this hole was removed because apparently repairing our border will disturb these five animals."
Senator Inhofe also expressed dismay that the following provisions were removed from the original version of this legislation:
* Electronic Confirmation by State DMVs of the Validity of Other States' Driver's Licenses and Driver Information.
* Anti-Trafficking Provision that Adds to the Existing Criminal Code Regarding the Sale of ID Counterfeiting Technology and Information.
* A Requirement for Proof of Lawful Presence in the United States.
* Temporary Driver's License requirements that State Visas and similar Documents Should Expire on the Same Date as Temporary Licenses.
* Restriction on a State's Ability to Accept Foreign Documents like the Matricula for Driver's Licenses.
"Jobs Americans won't do" ? What rubbish.
There is no job an American won't do if you offer him an American paycheck. This is about employers who want to pay Mexican paychecks.
If TANCREDO is GOP nominee in 2008, he will crush Hitlery Bin-Rotten Al-Clintooooooooon.
Election 2008:(Prediction)
Tom Tancredo 66% (350 Electoral Votes)
Hitlery Bin-Rotten Al-Clintooooon 33% (187 Electoral Votes)
I can sense the TANCREDO landslide in the making.
WE should not equate picking lettuce with our soveringty that is stupid, the job will get done and we might even start to truly mechanise this problem, a lot of the growers want to keep things the way they are, because if they have to pay for the machines to do this, the price will rise, and dont forget whether its machines or humans they dont pay for social services.
"Question...will you pick lettuce, or your kids??? Who will???"
The same people who picked it 10 years ago, before the large increase of illegals starting probably in the late 90's.
A question for you.. How much of the retail price of a head of lettuce is due to the price of labor picking it. (Hint consider markup costs along the way, plus the cost of transportation and refrigeration.)
Another question...how many illegals do we need total to pick lettuce, or other farm produce? Hint consider the number of acres of farmland, and the number of illegals needed per acre. Is it 100,000 or 1 million, or 10 million?
People on welfare can pick lettuce.
We don't need illegals here!
I would do without lettuce to get them out!
You are exactly correct!
And I am sick of it.
No. It's more than that.
Being an immigration hawk would be part of rebuilding the Democrats as the majority party.
New Democrat free trade economic policy never gave a damn about the economic interests of blue collar, non-college educated Americans. It only cared about urban knowledge workers. After all, couldn't all those displaced factory workers go to community college and study Visual Basic ? In NAFTA the Clintons were willing to betray their own base for a "victory" that profitted neither them nor the Democratic Party.
Blue collar Americans paid them back by voting their social conservatism. There weren't enough of them left in the Democratic Party to give Gephardt a chance. And he could have won in November. By turning their back on blue collar Americans the Dems lost the House, the Senate and mayoralty after governorship.
Hillary is smart enough to know that without economic populism the Dems have nothing to counteract "moral values". Gay marriage and abortion don't put food on the table. Rising wages for non college-educated Americans who no longer have to compete with illegals would. An anti-illegals, anti-outsourcing agenda would bring back blue collar voters who really did not benefit much during the 90's.
Read later.
Oh good grief...Bush threw the issue on the table and specified Congress was to work out the details, it is up to Congress to accomplish that task. Congress needs to quit scapegoating the Administration and get the job done. Apparently, the liberals have done a great job of subverting education in the last 30 years, I learned in elementary school that the President proposes, Congress disposes. If Bush made the laws, he would not be a President, he would be a dictator! Arrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!!
