US REBEL (RAMSEY CLARK) JOINS SADDAM LEGAL TEAM
BBC News ^ | 12/29/04

Posted on 12/29/2004 8:17:02 AM PST by areafiftyone

Former US attorney general Ramsey Clark has joined the team of Jordan-based lawyers defending Saddam Hussein.

Mr Clark - who held office in the 1960s under President Lyndon Johnson - said his principal concern was protecting the rights of the former Iraqi leader.

Saddam Hussein this month saw a lawyer for the first time since his capture.

Left-wing activist Mr Clark described the special tribunal established to try members of the former regime as a creation of the US military occupation.

He said it had no authority in law as a criminal court.

Mr Clark is joining a panel of about 20 prominent Arab and non-Arab lawyers who have volunteered to defend the former Iraqi leader.

He is an outspoken critic of American foreign policy on Iraq and visited Saddam Hussein in Baghdad in February 2003 just before the US-led invasion.

After leaving office in 1969, he became active in the anti-Vietnam War movement. More recently, he has offered legal advice to numerous figures at odds with the US government including former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic.

As I say, when we're talking about Ramsey, it's not like he was all that clueful in the first place.

Doesn't everyone, even Saddam, deserve a fair trial and a lawyer?

" I can't wait for this idiot to die so I can take a hot steaming crap on his grave! Scumbag traitor!"

I love it! Clark is traitorous commie scum. I would also be happy to attend his funeral and piss on his grave in front of the assembled liberals paying tribute to their commie hero.

He is not a "rebel", he is a communist traitor to the United States, as is Tom Hayden, Jane Fonda and John Kerry. They gave aid and comfort to our enemies and should have been executed for treason.

Jeff, do you really think Saddam will make it to trial? He knows a lot of sensitive information and he's in really poor health.

Ramsey Clark is far worse than a standard issue liberal. If he isn't an ideological Marxist, I would be surprised. His relentless support for any enemy of the United States, Communist or Muslim, is yet another example of plentiful evidence of an alliance between leftists and Muslim extremists on a worldwide scale.

Remember that Saddam Hussein is not a Muslim fundamentalist, but a Ba'athist, that is, a member of a nationalist and socialist party with strong ties to the old Soviet bloc. Ba'athist ideology is an amalgam of Nazism and Stalinism, dressed up in pan-Arab and Muslim rhetoric. Clark is defending a socialist "brother."

I think he will, and that he will be found guily and executed forthwith. That's my hope anyway. It would go a long way in establishing a republican form of government with a systemn of laws that even the most heinous are subject to. From that perspective, I believe it is essential as a foundation laying event in a free Iraq.

Because of that need, it is more likely that the terrorists themselves could try and have him killed, and then blame it on the US.

I think the Iraqi's should institute a policy that, if you are one of Saddam's lawyers, and he loses in the trial, you will be executed along with him.

The problem with that idea is that they would be motivated to work even harder to free Saddam.
