Bioethicist to discuss views on death and dying at USF

TAMPA - Noted bioethicist Arthur Caplan will discuss Americans' views on death and dying in Tampa Thursday evening as the first in an Ethics and Humanities lecture series sponsored by the University of South Florida Health Sciences Center and Tampa General Hospital.

Caplan's talk, "Can Americans Ever Manage Dying: From Karen Ann Quinlan to Terri Schiavo," is scheduled for 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the Wyndham Harbor Island Hotel, 725 S Harbour Island Blvd. in Tampa. The presentation is free.

Caplan is chair of the department of medical ethics and director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania, the author of 24 books and a frequent commentator on ethical issues in medicine, from end-of-life care to stem cell research.

I called the college switchboard this morning for them to advise the experts on killing people that: "Terri Is Not Dying" and therefore, I objected to the title of their seminar.
