News Advisory:

In response to today's Supreme Court denial, which condemns Terri Schiavo to a painful death through starvation and dehydration, the Christian Defense Coalition and the National Clergy Council will today issue a national call to the faith community and people of good will to travel to Florida to pray and to plead for her life.

The Christian Defense Coalition and the National Clergy Council gained national prominence when they led mass demonstrations in Montgomery, Alabama, in support of the display of the Ten Commandments in the state Supreme Court building there.

The groups will hold a news conference today at 4:30 p.m. in front of the US Supreme Court at the south end of its front steps.

"Today the Supreme Court has issued a death sentence to Terri Schiavo. In response to this unjust decision we are issuing a national call for all people of conscience to stand in solidarity with our dear sister. Our hope and prayer is that scores will come from across the nation just as they did for Chief Justice Roy Moore in Alabama," said director of the Christian Defense Coalition Rev. Patrick Mahoney.

"A society has sunk to it lowest when it abandons the sick and helpless. Should this prove the end of the line for Terri and her loving family, this will be a deep shame that our country will carry for a terribly long time," said Rev. Rob Schenck, president of the National Clergy Council.
