I hope our government is not encouraging these liberal jackasses to defame America by giving more money in order to prove that we are not "stingy." Why do you think these butt-holes say these things? They say them because that is the reaction they were hoping to get. In the process, though, they are slandering us.

I saw Cliff May on CNN a while ago asking where the UN was, why it didn't help put in a tsunami warning system. May added that the UN pays for the monitoring of the snowpack for Alpine ski resorts, but couldn't be bothered to do something for SE Asia in terms of the tsunami danger.
The UN pays to monitor the snowpack for European ski resorts? Nice use they make of our tax dollars.

The UN is incompetent even at humanitarian projects. I cannot think of a single good reason to justify its existence.

Stop the madness! Leave my tax dollars alone or give them to the veterans.

How about the UN not being so stingy? Yes, Koffe, tell us again about that Oil for Food scandal. Lemme guess, somehow he's already figured out how to skim off $$$ from the earthquake victims if only he can get those gullible US taxpayers to fork over more US dollars. Sorry, Bush, but between your spinelessness with the UN and your open border policy this voter is not pleased.

typical of the NYT...if we hadn't given more money they would be saying that Egeland is right we are stingy....we give more money and they say that we are 'rewarding slanders of America'
" Mr. Egeland said. "We get one-third of what we ask for in our humanitarian appeals to poor African countries, and the number is going down. I see too many hungry children in the world, too many uncared for refugees, and too many unmet needs."
note to Mr Egeland: get a clue and stop the lining of pockets over there in your cesspool of corruption that you call the UN. stop handing supplies to dictators as you take them off the boat and you will see less hungry children.

Holy cr*p, now we have family members of those lost in the disaster saying we need to give more on Fox News. Where was his family's contribution to the victims' families of 9/11. Yes it is epic disaster, but I am becoming convinced that we need to tell the world to go Cheney themselves. Ungrateful POS.

The business about "rewarding the slanderers" my comment, not theirs. The NY Times wrote an editorial just a few weeks ago claiming that Americans are stingy when it comes to giving to charity, so they apparently agree with this idiot.

Over-sensitive yet again, to being labeled "meanspirited," Bush gives the leftists what they want.
On another FR page, various details of how the U.N., same U.N. as in the above story, sat on its butt during the Rawandan massacres where there were no earthquake, no tsunamis.

This BS that the US is the "richest" nation and should give much more than everyone else, but is only giving a little more than everyone else, is coming from the same people who any other day of the week would criticize the US, saying that there are many other nations which have a much higher standard of living, like Sweden and Norway, for exmaple, thus proving socialism is better than capitalism.
To: Brilliant
Exactly!! Somewhere along the line, these do-gooders have forgotten where the money comes from and are grandstanding at the expense of the US taxpayers.

These critics often cite a figure once put forward at the United Nations that wealthy countries should try to reach a target of spending seven-tenths of 1 percent of their national economy for aid to poor countries. According to the Congressional Research Service, an independent agency, the United States is the largest aid donor in terms of dollars, but its record of donating two-tenths of 1 percent of its national economy for foreign aid makes it among the smallest donors as a proportion of what it could theoretically afford.

I am about to blow a gasket in all this. All the Unitarian's need sit down and STFU, pronto. What would happen if we kept all our money and help at home for a year? Sometimes it is necessary to remind others what it would be like if Uncle Sam didn't bail everyone out of their problems. France is sending $136,000.00 Let's Jacques and Kofi handle this one and see how it turns out.
NOT!

This pandering to the world rejects makes me sick.
You can't "buy" respect. Throw in the cost of running that naval task force headed for that disaster area; how much a day does that cost? I'm sure the fresh water systems and generators will save many lives, but we will still be condemned for doing too little.
I have a very low tolerance towards ingrates with a big mouth.

50 Million freed Afghanis and Iraqis meet the US Taxpayer.
There is more than one form of US aid and we have zero to apologize for.

That'll show 'em. The US caves because of silly comments.

According to the Congressional Research Service, an independent agency, the United States is the largest aid donor in terms of dollars, but its record of donating two-tenths of 1 percent of its national economy for foreign aid makes it among the smallest donors as a proportion of what it could theoretically afford. This is misleading as hell. Only one whose politics incline towards the pink would ignore private charities' contribution to the mix. Total that into the mix and we give more than all other countries combined...
To state the obvious: goverment "charity" is not the most efficient means of spending.
Oil-for-food, anyone?
