The Bush administration more than doubled its financial commitment yesterday to provide relief to nations suffering from the Indian Ocean tsunami, amid complaints that the vacationing President Bush has been insensitive to a humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions.
As the death toll surpassed 50,000 with no sign of abating, the U.S. Agency for International Development added $20 million to an earlier pledge of $15 million to provide relief, and the Pentagon dispatched an aircraft carrier and other military assets to the region. Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, in morning television appearances, chafed at a top U.N. aid official's comment on Monday that wealthy countries were being stingy with aid. "The United States is not stingy," Powell said on CNN. __ Tsunami in South Asia __

Although U.N. Emergency Relief Coordinator Jan Egeland yesterday withdrew his earlier comment, domestic criticism of Bush continued to rise. Skeptics said the initial aid sums -- as well as Bush's decision at first to remain cloistered on his Texas ranch for the Christmas holiday rather than speak in person about the tragedy -- showed scant appreciation for the magnitude of suffering and for the rescue and rebuilding work facing such nations as Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Indonesia.

You know, I try to feel joy everytime I look at the red(w/little specs of blue) electoral map hanging at my desk... But it's not easy to accept the B.S. this man has to endure.
The only people complaining are the DUmmies. Unfortunately that means the MSM.
Liberal belly-aching? Nothing new here to see and its time to move on.
Just saw Bill Sammon on Fox News. He says that although the USA is last on the list of nations throwing money at the tsunami victims, this is misleading. The figures do not take into account personal and church-based contributions, which are HUGE. Neither does it include food donations, of which the USA is the leader. La-tee-dah...SSZ
Well, it really is a case of damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. If he had rushed back to Washington to oversee coordination of relief efforts, the story would be about how Bush's underlings are so imcompetent they couldn't handle things without his personal supervision. So, just take the Washington Post and its ilk for what they are worth....the stuff you wrap your garbage in.
WTF do they expect him to do---go blazing back to DC?
If this had happened in the US--I'd say he ought to go back.
Otherwise, the MSM ought to shut up, IMO.
Who's doing the criticizing? What can Bush do?
Wring his hands like the rest of the MSM? These people are pathetic bottom feeders.
Socialists will always say the Republican President is doing enough, or saying enough, or paying enough. Nobody is sure what the final death toll will be. I am sure we will give more and do more than anyone in the end... but God forbid "The President was sleeping when the tsunami occuured... this is outrageous!"
According to Gallup, the President's approval numbers are crashing. Of course according to Gallup, John Kerry is the next President of the United States.
Oh, that's right. There was no DNC phone call or propaganda fax.
The MSM all hang out on DU and plant their seeds of hate.
Then the MSM report on the behavior of the DUmmies.
Viola! News!
If I were President, immediately after those snotty "stingy" remarks, I would have cut the aid offered in half. Let private charities take care of it, NOT THE US TAXPAYER!!!
There has never been a statement too scummy for the Weasels on the Left to assert against the forces of Right.
Fire all the Washington Post reporters and hire Dr Phil. He can do ALL the reporting for that bed-wetting liberal rag.
Geee!
You don't think these guys are upset at the election do ya!?!
Even a DU'er should be able to spot the bias in this article.
