What a sick joke. I'm sure private donations in the US will exceed this amount several times over.

Most aid is just a replay of more "Oil for Food".

Domestically, I happen to believe that the $1.1 trillion dollars we spend on welfare (humanitarian assistance) is criminal. We rape and pillage taxpayers in order to redistrubute their wealth.

Globally, we send billions to terrorist nations and the PLO.

If you think this is wise, you are one strange person.

Well that's mighty big of them considering they have a bigger combined economy than ours. BTW our total will exceed 35 Million in the short term.

As of 8:00 PM EST private donations to the Red Cross are over 400K.

I challenge all Freepers to visit the list bellow and make a donation.

List of official aid agencies

We need to spend the money on OUR TROOPS FIRST... They need equipment, pay raise. Like they say "look out after number one " then others.

Here in Toronto, where many people have lost loved ones, I'm sure that more than this has already been raised. Every Hindu temple is taking a collection and a bank account has already been opened and publicized.

Helping people who are suffering is what the US does. It always has.

If you don't like it, the rest of your life here is going to be pretty miserable.

I have to agree. We can give to our troops AND others who need our help. If we don't then we are no better than France.

Absolutely.

We have no ABM system, no robust anti-bioweapon program, and we have been very slack in advanced weapon designs.

We spend $1.1 trillion every year on domestic welfare (source: U.S. Budget "Human Resource" superfunction).

We cancel billions of debt.

We send billions more globally in aid to terrorist nations.

This crap has to stop. 50% of the people in this nation pay no taxes, yet our government tries to play mommy and daddy to the entire world while we look forward to a soon to be $9 billion debt. In additon, most of the nations we send money to hate us, and many funnel this "aid" into terrorist organizations who are killing us.

The people of this nation are insane to let their country rape and pillage the taxpayers like this.

My son is in the Air Force and has been to the desert many times. He gets most of what he needs.

These tsunami victims need our help, I, for one, can't turn my back on them and sleep well at night.

Tonight I watched a bulldozer plowing bodies into mass graves. The people hit by this disaster are not running some kind of welfare scam like Al Sharpton. These people REALLY need our help.

I am against the US playing daddy to a bunch of welfare countries. AND I am in favor of humiliating the world community into doing their part. We are 5% of the world's population and yet we have to solve 95% of the world's problems.

I am also in favor of helping those who truly need a hand.

We gave more money in foreign aid and humanitarian assistance to nations who hate us than all the other nations of the world combined.

If you exclude Israel, Iraq and Afghanistan, japan actually gives more foreign aid than we do.
