I have tree-ring incidents at: 3195BC...

3195BC + 2004AD = 5199 (or "5200 years ago").

Or am I missing something...???

Thompson believes that the 5,200-year old event may have been caused by a dramatic fluctuation in solar energy reaching the earth.

Evidence shows that around 5,200 years ago, solar output first dropped precipitously and then surged over a short period. It is this huge solar energy oscillation that Thompson believes may have triggered the climate change he sees in all those records.

...we should be extremely cautious in how much we ‘tweak’ the system,” he said.

I fear that the the first snap to Justin Zwick will trigger a solar osscilation of biblical proportions.

Funny, no mention of the more significant events at 18KYA and 11KYA which began the "interglacial" periods. Krakatoa ended the 1850 "mini ice age" abruptly.

Saharan civilization may date back to 12Kya, and at that time was similar to the Amazonian plains (quite lush). One thing that nags me is the continental positions at the time were somewhat different than "now", and at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation, with the seas neatly 300' (100m) lower than now, it would have far been easier for early man to have hunted & fished his way from Europe to north America, then the Beringa Ice bridge.

Fresh water (melt), fish , and game would have been readily available form France to Great Britain, to Iceland, Greenland, then to Canada. Very few credible artifacts have been found in eastern russia earlier than 4000 old. Artifacts 10-15KY old have been found out on the continental shelf while hunting "treasure", but are usually "socked away" for fear of upsetting the great lie of "native Americans" (They were no way near "first")

JMNSHO - YMMV.

I've read that during the last major ice age England went from measurably warmer than it is today to glaciated in less than 100 years.

But more importantly, they believe it has happened at least once before, and the results were nearly catastrophic to emerging cultures at the time.

It was Bush's ancient ancestors' fault.

Read this thing several times now and not sure what it is exactly trying to present although the last couple of statements probably indicate it is about global warming.
I just can`t seem to follow the link between the incidents from 5200 years ago to the final statement that "The evidence is clear that a major climate change is underway".Probably just tired I guess.

It is interesting the line Little Ice Age,from 1450 to 1850 A.D.
A span of 400 years due to natural events. We have 20-50 years of an apparent warming trend, which is somewhat inevitable only 100 years after a cooling trend, and look at how quickly not just man but coincidently affluent western society is accused of destroying the world.

BINGO............we have a winner:

"I've read that during the last major ice age England went from measurably warmer than it is today to glaciated in less than 100 years.

The global warming melts the N Pole ice cap....casusing additional fresh water in the North Atlantic that TURNS OFF THE GULF STREAM

Hence a mini-ice age in Europe.
