Israel has cancelled plans to send a 150-person rescue mission to Sri Lanka after the devastated island objected to the military composition of the team.
The delegation - including 60 soldiers - had been due to set off on Tuesday to help after Sunday's tsunami disaster.
Instead, a smaller team will escort a convoy carrying emergency supplies, Israeli officials said.
Sri Lanka restored diplomatic ties with Israel in 2000, despite objections from the island's Muslim minority.

Sorry I really meant to say that I agree with you and that giving in the right spirit should be unconditional.
I agree. This is the third post on this subject and I'm not sure that people aren't jumping to conclusions. Didn't the Jerusalem Post later say that the numbers of workers from Israel was reduced due to lack of accomodations and the Sri Lankan government was grateful for the help? I know from helping in disaster relief, too many volunteers can be a logistical nightmare.
Now that I have checked further there is some debate on World Vision on FR and it is concerning.
However others like them and they are already onsite all over southern asia helping to distribute aid and assitance.

I think somebody should make a movie for every country called, "A DAY WITHOUT AMERICA." I am really pissed off right now.
I'm so glad you agree; it's disturbing to see freepers want to cut off funding for those in such desperate need.
Maybe I'm stone cold but I think any money we might have for charity or good works be spent on our soldiers in the field or in our hospitals. We can never do enough for those in our veterans' hospitals.
I wonder if they think they will get less help from Muslim countries if the Israli military is there in uniform?
Does anyone know what Muslim countries are doing for the victims? What is poor poverty stricken Saudi Arabia doing? /sarcasm
That's not cold just freedom of choice...
You can donate any amount you want to the benefit of our soldiers with links on this website...
Some of us just like to help others as well..
Sure, God has a plan but I doubt your in any good part of it..
I'm thinking about how if you were a politician in some foreign country who didn't like Jews how you would tell them to F**K off..
Words to mean things...
end of story.
What the hell? I'm not a politician, I'm posting on a political forum in the United States. I'm assuming you have a point, but I'm guessing it's a dumb one.
"I'm willing to bet that all countries hit by this disaster will reject Israeli help."
After the last big earthquake in Iran, when about 50,000 natives died in their disintegrating dirt huts, I recall the mullahs also refused entry of aid and aid workers from Israel.
It is very tempting to want to allow these primitive ingrates wallow and suffer in their cesspools of hate.
I see that we are sending aid to Sri Lanka. We should tell them that we will only aid the countries that accept aid from Israel also. Otherwise "go fish".
Your not a politician! You surprised us then..
You swear and think just like one.
My point? Your condeming a whole people to suffer more because of what their disfunctional government did.
My advice is to help them because we can. It's just the right thing to do.
That's my point.
You obviously didn't read my post. And as a Jew, I have the righteous indignation to say what I said.
Did we really do that? Turn away Israeli help for fear of offending terrorists? Names? State department ?
You may be right. You present some interesting perspectives.
Darn, here was our chance to wipe out a few more "gonna be terrorists" Muslims. Guess I am still workingon my spirituality....9-11 put a big dent in my journey.
They don't want Israeli troops, huh? I wonder if they are going to mind the Navy ship we're sending over there. Yipes, what am I thinking? I forgot, there is nothing the US can do that is right.ha.
"Everything I need to know about Islam I learned on 9-ll."
Excellant point.
I wonder what kind of message God is sending by putting televangelists on tv with large hair and tons of makeup that jump up and down and sing badly? (Whoa! Here come the posts...)
