Longtime presidential strategist Dick Morris had words of caution yesterday for those who say Hillary Clinton can't generate the kind of national support she needs to put herself back in White House in 2008.
Not only will Sen. Clinton win her party's nomination in a walk, the former Clinton advisor contends that her chances of beating the GOP four years from now are "superb."
Story Continues Below
"She's so far ahead of Kerry and Edwards and any other possible nominee in the primaries that there really won't be a primary," Morris told Sean Hannity radio fill-in Dave Stone. "The problem is," added the top consultant, "she has an awfully good chance of winning the election."
Explained Morris:
"She generates black turnout that's about ten-points higher than [John] Kerry got. So that's one extra point for the Democratic Party.
"She probably is going to restore the Hispanic margin to 30-points, as opposed to the ten-point margin Kerry had. That's two-points extra for the Democrats.
"And she'll probably carry single women by four-to-one. Kerry carried them by two-to-one. So that's another two-points [for the Dems].
That's five-points worth of support the Democrats didn't get in this year's vote - enough to trump President Bush's 51 to 49 percent margin of victory.
The questions is, can the GOP squeeze out another three points from their base?
Morris said he doesn't see how, noting, "In most areas the Republicans pretty well maxed out in their turn-out."
His conclusion: "I think Hillary has a superb chance to win."

There would be a coup....
During the last week of the campaign Dick changed the winner as often as the tide changed.
young black friends of mine report "we're not going to vote for white men for president, anymore".
i guess that means that the wife of "the first black president" will get their votes.
Seems we have a double posting of this article....http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1309527/posts areafiftyone was a minute faster than me. Quick Posting areafiftyone
The political equivalent of DEBKA.Boy you hit the nail on the head here. It's no wonder Morris and Clinton got along so well, they change sides so easily no one notices, unlike the Kerry flip flops that were so easy to spot.
Some hired "toe" undoubtably laced her pedicured, pampered, peds with a potent psychotic, instead of a much needed physic. ;)
Rice v Hitlery, I see a landslide, and it ain't going the Hildebeast's way.
I usually listen when Morris speaks about politics, but he's not listing any of Hillary's negatives - and she has many.
She has a lot of baggage from her past to account for not the least of which is her husband. The blue states liberals may genuflect in her presents, but it'll take the people of the red states to put her in office.
If she has a tough Republican opposing her it'll make her job harder, Morris knows this and yet he keeps listing only Hillary's strong point even though she hates him. Morris has to be a masochist.
She does does she? What else do you see in that crystal ball Dickie?
I don't doubt that Hillary will get higher support among these groups. The flaw in this reasoning is that most of the new support will come in states the Democrats carried anyway--they will just carry them by higher margins. I don't think Hillary will fool many in the Red states (well, maybe Iowa). Remember Dick, we have an Electoral College, not a popular vote.
Powell's replacement at State, however, has a better chance.I would love to see Dr. Rice be the Republican nominee, but I don't think she is the only one who could defeat Hillary. Hillary's negatives are awful high, and there is a lot of skeletal material in her clothing room."Condoleezza Rice takes the black base and she takes the female base that's absolutely essential for Hillary's victory."
Said Morris: "Rice is the only person who can stop Hillary Clinton from being president."
