No it means in a million years, the total angle traveled by the earth will be 3 x 10^-6 seconds x 10^6 years x 365.25 days/year x 360 degrees/day x 1day/86400 = ~4.6 degrees greater or about an additional eighth of a revolution. The effect on the length of day will still be 0.000003 seconds per day. (I have ignored the difference between sideral and mean solar days for simplicity)Geez...If this is the kind of stuff you occupy yourself with, no wonder you are Lonesome....:>)

LOL!
But I must admit I'm confused. From what some people are saying now, it sounds like you might actually have to spend more time with them ... :-(

"Do you know where I was wrong and he/she was right? I misread the article as 3 microseconds per year instead of per day."
That, and the fact that the rotation is supposed to have sped up, not slowed down.
Yes and I posted a correction like a microsecond after I realized I mispoke. I should get extra credit for that.
And it wasn't clear whether you mean a day a million years from now will actually be 3 seconds shorter, or if that's just the cumulative difference over that period.
Who in their right mind thinks that a 3 microsecond time difference caused by an earth quake 3 days ago would ONLY register a time difference a million years from now?
Of course it would be cumulative.

I don't know about the rotation, but I just heard Fox news say this was the largest tsunami since 49 BC.
Did I hear correctly?

OK, me 'n my dog finally figured out what you said...he had to 'splain it to me, but now he wants to know how many grains he has to pull out of this to keep from waking up in the middle of the night a billion years from now.

LOL
Great interchange, from the eyes of a latecomer.

Are you sure it wasn't 15 milliseconds?

I learned typing a long time ago on a mill. Got Mavis Beacon's course to improve my speed. But that 15 millisecond test's a bitch.

Some nitwit environMENTAL wacko on Rush Limbaugh (Roger Hedgecock filling in) called in and said that all the digging we were doing on the surface making new roads and such caused the earthquake.

Ok. Tell your dog to multiply the grains of sand in the hour glass by 24 then divide that by 3 million, multiply it by 365 days per year and plan accordingly.
Of course he will want to convert it to dog years before advising you on how to alter your schedule.

Micro is a millionth -- true enough, but in the realm of units less than 1, milli is a thousandth (ie millimeter).

Went out to eat tonight at a place that has tv's all over the restaurant. CBS news was on one screen with Dan Rather showing scenes from the tsunami.
My wife and I agreed that the MSM would somehow tie the earthquake to "Global Warming" or President Bush.
Seconds later CBS news came back from a break and my 17yo son burst out laughing.
Seems Rather was on screen again with a backdrop that said, "Tsunami" and "Global Warming".
Not being able to hear the "news" I'm assuming it was two seperate stories. Timing was good though!

Age is mostly a matter of mind. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
My mother used to warn me: Ask any woman her age and nine out of ten will guess wrong.
Happy New Year.
