I was watching CNN's Inside Politics today (no transcript up yet) and they had a panel on - someone from the Washington Post, LA Times (Ron Brownstein) and Time magazine (Karen Tumulty). They were discussing our response to the disaster and the host of the program mentioned that the UN called our response "stingy". Then the panel went on to talk about how we "fumbled" this and were basically AWOL for one day. This just really made my blood boil. What have other countries done? The Brits say over 10,000 of their citizens were on holiday in that area. It's a large tourist area for Europeans. Where's the criticism of the EU and its member nations? And do we really have to play politics at a time like this?
About that time Germany had a horrible flood. This German guy had the *alls to come on tv and slam America for not sending them money. I couldn't believe my ears. They were calling Bush every name under the sun, yet thought we would should still send them money. Unbelievable.
Yep. Around 1997 or so (when I was in college), I remember CNN was played in all the on-campus cafeterias and restaurants, so I would unavoidably see it even though I hated it and didn't really watch it. During every commercial break, they would display a full-screen U.N. flag and the voice of Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) saying, "Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the U.N." Made me want to put my fist or a bullet through the TV. Grrrr!!!
Message to the U.N.: Get bent.
Not to mention all the private dollars that US cistizens will send into the International Red Cross. Personally, I quit sending $$$ to the Red Cross (American or otherwise) when they started discussing spending the 9/11 funds on projects other than 9/11 projects.

this is not surprising, I was watching CNN late last night, and you could see this mantra beginning to rise. it sounded just like the Dade County local officials getting on the air right after hurricane andrew hit Florida, trashing Bush 41 for not "doing more" - even while they themselves were doing nothing to help people with local resources.
Yeah, but it souldnt' be as much fun as using the &##%$%%%$#**&&& keys! ;o)

Arafat had built a $1.3 billion personal fortune before he croaked, you'd think his wife could send some. Oops, I forgot, he didn't give his wife the PIN or account number, so the Swiss have it all locked up, just like the stolen money of the Jews who died during WWII.

Then I have to say that I would either not deal with the UN by giving directly to the charitable organizations doing the work, or I agree with the poster who said to deduct the amount from what would be given to the UN.
How long do you deal with people who continue to abuse you?
