The 'h' is silent so it is pronounced 'poo-ket'

When my friend phoned me, he and his wife had already been moved to a hotel on the mainland.

I have friends in Singapore who have been rather amazed at the damage. They're relatively close to the epicenter, but did not feel more than a minor earthquake, and had no tsunami. Just lucky, I guess.

There once was a man who had to go
So he took a room on the seventh flo'
Though he wanted the beach, nature called
Up above what was about to befall
As nature's fury laid Phuket low

"Please tell me Phuket isn't pronounced the way I think it is." It is pronounced "Phew-Kay".
