Georgetown University's South Asian Studies Professor CATHERIN DALPINO just stated on C-SPAN's 'Washington Journal' TV Interview Program that...
...Communist Vietnam is now exporting lots of coffee abroad. Coffee being grown on Central Highland plantations that were once battlefields.
What the learned Professor failed to mention was that many Central Highland Montagnard tribes people were removed, with extreme prejudice, by the Communist Vietnamese for its own long coveted control of the Highlands ...just for the Coffee of it.

Professor DALPINO also went on to state that the reason HO CHI MINH became a Communist in France during the 1920's was because the French Communist Party was the only political party there that would listen to him and then give its support for nationalism in Vietnam.
The learned Professor again forgot to mention that when HO CHI MINH returned to Vietnam after college in Paris, France ...his declared mission was to communize ALL of Southeast Asia. And then he went about pushing to do just that.

Am reviewing your links on this thread. They're priceless.
Good post. I was in Vietnam about a year and a half ago, it is a very nice place. What I see here is a bunch of hyperventilating hyperbole, thanks for setting the record straigh.
I was in Laos last year, there is no government restrictions on the temples. In fact, one of the main tourist draws are the temples in Luang Prabang. Laos is still a very backward and poor country, but, like Vietnam, communisim will be in name only soon enough.

As I have previously shared here...
...I personally have had my hands placed in and along the deep long scars of those Vietnamese Re-Education Camp surviviors who had had their stomachs cut open down to the navel by Communist Camp guards after the Fall of Saigon.
A Fall of Saigon caused when a post-WATERGATE U.S. Democrat Congress cut and ran from South Vietnam's fight for its own Freedom at flank speed.
Much like the Democrat Party so looking forward to doing again now to the Free Peple of Iraq and Afghanistan.
True Art reflects Life.
'Pictures of a vietnamese Re-Education Camp,' taken from the painfuly artful Vietnamese-American motion picture...
..'The JOURNEY from the FALL'..
...are true reflections of the massive human suffering imposed on the innocents by the Godless in a Communist enslaved Vietnam after 1975.

Vietnam is a different place today. You should go back and see it, you would be surprised.
.
I will be returning to Vietnam only when its Free, and Human Rights are restored there.
Tourists traveling in Communist Vietnam, even American Citizens, are being imprisoned without charges for unending periods of time.
Imprisoned also are those petitioning the Govermment for the restoration of their own lands, farms and houses taken from them by the Communists in 1975.
The Vietnamese American Community here in the United States has learned much about Freedom here the last 31 years. And it so looks forward to sharing what it has learned with loved ones in Vietnam.
And that is coming.
.
I'm hoping to go back in a few months, its a great place, and there were lots of vets there when I was there that agreed.
The world is changing, change with it or be left behind, I encountered nothing but hospitality while there, and saw more capitalism there than most of the places I've been to.
.
The world is indeed changing, but the Communist Government of Vietnam still defines a terrorist as anyone who seeks Regime Change in that country. Even if it's through a two party electoral system vote by the people ..which has yet to exist there.
With this new World Wide War on Terrorism, and the emergence of a Giant China bulging at the seams nearby, it is Communist Vietnam that's being forced to change ...or be left behind.
As you enjoy tha pluses of visitng Vietnam before it is Free, NEVER FORGET the persecuted who are paying, and have already paid, the price for your enjoyment. And be sure to be real careful yourself there.
After International Movie Star & lifetime resident of Saigon Vietnamese Actor DON DUONG finished filming his outstanding role as a North Vietnamese Army Regimental Commander oposite my victorious Battle of IA DRANG-1965 Commanding Officer Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE in "WE WERE SOLDIERS"
...he was declared an Enemy of the State & Peoples Army of Vietnam. Just for his having starred in this even-handed RANDALL WALLACE Vietnam War Classic about my 7th Cavalry's and the War's 1st Major Battle with North Vietnamese Army Regulars.

Actor DON DUONG was then pressed by the Communists to sign a confession, which he refused to do. He was followed and harassed for 8 long months afterwards while officials were making up their minds on what punishment to impose on him, without a Trial.
DON DUONG's story follows:

So...., if someone in America tried to overthrow the government, would not he be a terrorist?
.
Nope, only Vietnam calls anyone who calls of Regime Change a Terrorist.
Rather odd, wouldn't you say, during a full out real War on Terror going on throughout the World..?

Air Force One has mechanical problem; Bush shifts to backup
HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam Air Force One has suffered a mechanical problem, forcing President Bush to shift to a smaller backup jet as he continues his Asian trip.
The White House isn't specifying the problem that grounded the Boeing 747 which usually serves as the presidential aircraft. It happened in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam before the president was to fly to Jakarta, Indonesia.
The glitch left officials scrambling to accommodate dozens of traveling staffers. Most were getting seats on a press charter aircraft.
The White House is hopeful the 747 will be repaired before the next leg -- from Jakarta to Hawaii. If it isn't, Bush's Boeing 757 may have to make refueling stops along the way.

If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for places they can no longer go......
Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always.......
Take what they have left, and what they've taught you with their dying and keep it with your own.....
And in that time, when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind.....
