Good thing he didn't try to do a barrel roll/dive into the ground combo- he wouldn't get to do it twice in succession.
ROFL!
Cheney: "Yes. The president made the decision ... that if the plane would not divert ... as a last resort, our pilots were authorized to take them out. Now, people say, you know, that's a horrendous decision to make. Well, it is. You've got an airplane full of American citizens, civilians, captured by ... terrorists, headed and are you going to, in fact, shoot it down, obviously, and kill all those Americans on board?
"... It's a presidential-level decision, and the president made, I think, exactly the right call in this case, to say, I wished we'd had combat air patrol up over New York.'"
I think Dick Cheney's explanation is very clear. What else does their need to be said.
Whatever people want to say, they'll say. People can't refute that the passengers did revolt against terrorists. People can't refute that loved ones have told stories of bravery from these passengers.
It seems that some of this effort is less about questioning whether the President (his administration, military, etc.) must make these kind of gut-wrenching decisions, but about tarnishing the memory of these people. It seems that the left wants to break down the "myth" that these people did one of the bravest things any person can do for another: sacrifice themselves so that others don't die.
The left understands the power of belief; in fact, they are fighting against that everyday of their lives (more especially during the recent holidays). They understand that if they can't ruin the beliefs and feelings that we have over these issues, then they can more effectively combat these references.
And, again, it is yet another example of the left using national tragedy for 1) the detriment of their political opponents and/or 2) the advancement of their own political agenda. Period.
There is plenty of data that appear to be conclusive that debris was found too far from the crash site to have "bounced" that far.
As for pitying the village idiot, what do you have to say about such routine and offhand lies as Tommy Thompsons lies about the anthrax attacks? "Drank from a stream" my ass.
Had they been just a shade less outre, you would be just as derisive of anyone questioning Tommy Thompson's lies now as you are of those who think something other than the official story happened on flight 93.
Governments lie. They lie reflexively. They lie routinely when it comes to successful sabotage attacks. They lie to prop up financial markets and morale. They lie to keep people from "panicing" - which, in governments' view is any behavior inconvenient to the government.
And Tommy Thompson's lies helped... how?
What is the meaning of this terminology. It sounds like it has something to do with parts of an airplane breaking off at excessive speeds and stress loads. I was thinking that could have been the cause of some pieces of debris found seven miles from the crash site. It's important to keep in mind that an aircraft flying at 480 mph covers eight miles per minute, so seven miles away is only about a minute of flight time.
/sarcasm off
