Follow the link at #7 and about halfway through are photos, maps & comments on DG. I had been wondering, myself.

I read on Fox that the Pentagon is saying no reports of damage have been received.

I was wondering the same thing about DGAR myself. Haven't heard or seen anything as yet. Ping me if you do, please.

From another thread:

Massive 8.5 quake rocks Southeast Asia, triggers tidal waves

I just recieved an email from my son who is stationed at Diego Garcia, according to him they didnt even feel the quake, and no sign of any waves coming their way. He was talking more about what a great meal they were fed on Christmas then what was going on elsewhere. Which was FINE with me!

They are all FINE on Diego Garcia, the quake wasn't even felt. My son is stationed there and we recieved an email from him last night. This is also a small bit of information that may help us all understand why a tsunami most likely (never say never) could hit there.

Diego Garcia is at the top of the Chagos Trench located just to our east (hence the island chain name of Chagos Archipelago). This trench is very deep and the steepness of the grade from the trench to the top of the island does not allow tsunamis to build up before they were to come on shore.

I've heard from other Freepers that Diego Garcia and personnel there are fine. The coral ring apparently deflected much of the impact of the tsunami.

its fine due to the depth / trench around the island - read a article about it, did not feel a thing

someone asked Powell yesterday about Diego Garcia - and he said he had heard nothing --- prob gone - wasn't it basically a large platform in the sea?
