Actually have to wonder about the threat to places like Perth Australia now too. The tsunami will go anywhere there's open ocean, eh? Tell you the truth, I'm a little confused about Thailand. Didn't I read further up the thread they got hit? Malaysia should have completely blocked any tsunami should it not?

If you look at a map of Thailand, you'll see something called the "Isthmus of Kra" hanging down from Thailand.
Phuket is on the west side of that on the coast of the Indian Ocean.
Malyasia doesn't start till further down the Isthmus.

Depending on a lot of factors, imho,
Sumatra should have protected the Western Thai coast SOMEWHAT.
But I don't think that takes into account anything other than the original site of the original 8.5 quake.
And, I don't know about the reverberations of waves back and forth across the Bay of Bengal.
