WASHINGTON After long defining itself as an undisputed defender of abortion rights, the Democratic Party is suddenly locked in an internal struggle over whether to redefine its position to appeal to a broader array of voters.
The fight is a central theme of the contest to head the Democratic National Committee, particularly between two leading candidates: former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, who supports abortion rights, and former Indiana Rep. Tim Roemer, an abortion foe who argues that the party cannot rebound from its losses in the November election unless it shows more tolerance on one of society's most emotional conflicts.

Saying and doing anything to remain relevant.
LOL! A classic Catch-22. Can they garner more new votes than the ones they lose?
Hee, hee. Dumbasses don't even know they've painted themselves into a corner. By manufacturing disparate but co-dependent victim groups, they're like a chess player whose Queen has been forced into a corner and defended only by pawns.
Don't worry... after a few bodies turn up in DC-area parks, the Democrats will have their pro-abortion agenda solidified in their ranks once again.
Don't worry, these seething fanatics aren't about to "rethink" anything to do with abortion. They're merely interested in lying more effectively about it.
Isn't Howard Dean a doctor of some sort (doctor of death, I guess)? I thought they took an oath to do no harm, or some such thing...
Dead on bottom line true. The 'Rat motto is: "How can we fool the peons today."
This as Awnuld wants the Republicans to move to the left and support abortion.
If the RATS really wanted to change their tune about abortion, lets see how the RATS react to Bush's judicial nominees and other pro-life legislation proposed in Congress.
Look for Kerry to appear outside an abortion clinic holding a shotgun!
They aren't "rethinking abortion." They are trying to figure out a way to fool pro-life people into voting for them.
Pure PR.
Pure BS.
But, it's still funny.
Democratic Leadership Rethinking Abortion
Why???
Because the RATS were aborted on 11-02-04 !!! ;-))
First they have to rethink abortion. Then they have to rethink homosexual marriage. Then they have to rethink gay scoutmasters. Then they have to rethink attacking Christianity. Then . . .
It's going to be very hard to keep all those lies straight without offending anyone, isn't it?
They aren't bothered that abortion kills babies. They're bothered that abortion keeps them from power. What a tragedy!
RATS are pro-life when their power is aborted.
Howard Dean is an abomination of a physician for many reasons, including his treason to this country and to the Oath of Hippocrates:
I SWEAR by Apollo the physician, and Aesculapius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation- to reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others. I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves. Whatever, in connection with my professional practice or not, in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. While I continue to keep this Oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times! But should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse be my lot!
Dean was said to have actually performed abortions so that places him in the category of baby killer. Scott Peterson just got the death penalty for killing his wife and unborn baby. Is Dean therefore soon to be prosecuted and convicted? Is there a disconnect in RAT minds about abortion now? Not bloody likely, RATs will never give up the NOW vote and that of leftist females.
More proof the Democrat party is self destructing. One cannot maintain a winning party by pandering to the wacko two percenter factions in America and trying to build a winning party out of them.
It would be wonderful if both parties could advocate the protection of all innocent human life, but I don't think that the democrat party will be ready for that until the post-WWII generation starts dying off. To get this job Tim Roemer would have to sell his soul and become pro-abortion, just like Harry Reid did.
For an interesting few minutes..read this article, and the one that ran in today's NY Times, on the same topic..side by side..curious omissions.and emphases...
Interest groups from the ACLU to the NAGS will continue to support Democrats as they realize that such reversal and change is sheer cosmetic surgery.
