I have read almost every scientific paper and study on the Shroud. I have spoken to some of the researchers involved. Dr. Jackson did NOT ascribe to the heating hypothesis as far as I can see, and the Russian work has not been published in any peer reviewed publication. In fact, some of the Russians have been discredited. As I have presented, the REASON for the reportes ages from the three labs has now been scientifically established BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. The sample cut from the Shroud WAS NOT EXEMPLARY OF THE SHROUD. It DID, IN FACT, contain between 40 and 60 percent 16th Century linen threads. Calculations combining these various mixtures of 1st century and 16th century cloth results in the exact figures presented by the three labs... with the diversity in reported age in exact proportion to the amount of new linen in each portion of the sample.
It is not necessary to postulate that the 1532 fire somehow, magically changed 30-50% of the carbon to C14. Such a transformation is contrary to Chemistry and Physics.
