We both know what would happen if either you or I attempted to take razor blades on that airplane. If you happen to be of ME descent, the ACLU protects you no matter what you carry on board or how you act once inside the plane.
It's the "What, me worry?" concept. IMHO they have no clue the serious threat of suicide bombers. Since it hasn't happened here yet, they minimize or discredit the idea it could happen at all.
How many times have we read of ME types photographing bridges, chemical or nuclear plants or refineries and law enforcement not showing up at all or showing up so late the perpetrators have left the scene. Perhaps the larger issue is local budgets maxed out and homeland security taking a "back seat" to domestic budget issues. Certainly our country's "homeland security" needs some tweaking.
