I've heard the reports of MS13 targeting police officers for ambush operations. Haven't seen reports (YET) of any AQ involvement.

I wouldn't rule out an alliance between the two, though I think it highly unlikely. The enemy of my enemy is my friend thing could come into play here.

Thinking out loud....
AQ makes their money from drugs out of Afghanistan. MS13 makes their money off drugs. Maybe an alliance is not that far fetched after all. AQ would be the supplier, MS13 would be the street dealing apparatus. Both would make their money. Now here's a scary thought: AQ provides weapons and training for the MS13 members. MS13 is now moving into more rural areas too.
