The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Thanks for asking for an update.

The chlorine leak in Graniteville, SC has been contained. The other two tanks of chlorine, which were not damaged, are being drained off into new tanks. This will take approx. a week.

It's been reported that the crash was most likely the result of human error. 80 of the 5,400 evacuees were allowed to go home two days ago. They are hoping the rest can go home Wednesday or Thursday.

There is still no word on some missing mill workers or their families, which is rather curious.

That's all I have for now; the crisis has passed although there are still roadblocks which hinder travel around some parts of our town, which is next to Graniteville.

Talk to you all later.

That's an interesting question. Why would we not read a major article, on-topic, like that, regardless of the author's viewpoint? We can still learn a lot from things we overall disagree with--usually more than we learn from something that goes over what we already think. Of course, others see it differently, but that's' my take on it. Best.

I see I cannot get the whole article. I did read the first paragraph. I'm too lazy to sign up. :)

Ah, they post a teaser, huh? Now I see what I'm paying for in print.

I actually like the whole mag, even though I disagree with many of the expressed and implied viewpoints in it. It's literate, and brings together lots of different writers.

But then, I read about 6 magazines a month so I have a wide slot for it to fall into..... >:-)

What was Mr. Clark's point anyway? Please don't keep me hanging.

?? Were you just joking...? I couldn't pretend to distill a complex analysis like that down into a sentence or two. Especially since what I get out of it may not be what you take away from it.

If I could state "the point" (like there's only one) that easily, I'd be a far better editor than I am! Matter of fact, I would've just posted it in the first place.

If you don't feel it's worth reading in its entirety, though, it's not like you'll suffer a huge loss--there are many interesting takes on the U.S. and terrorism today. I offered it only as a suggestion. Best.

Sorry angcat. When I posted the link to the article I didn't realize it was a teaser paragraph. I saw it was written by R. Clarke, who I wasn't in the mood to read, and didn't look further as I was trying to get about four different things done.

I do agree that just because it is written by Clarke is no reason not to read it. IMO just be wary of slanted spin (it's all Bush's fault). I was reading a book once that was written by a flaming liberal and my husband said "why?". My response - to keep on top of what they are saying.

That happens to me, too! I'm often caught reading or quoting from something that a friend feels is outside our "political bent." I always say, geez, why would I read something I already know and agree with! (It can really get your blood pumping the other way around, too, not to mention honing argumentation skills.)

Sure, Clarke is a putz. But he's not stupid. I don't tend to think liberals are stupid--know too many smart ones. Mostly, they just have incomprehensible priorities!

Best, Oorang. Love your screenname. r

That Atlantic monthly link says that you have to be a paid subscriber to register online and read the entire article.

Since you're a subscriber, is there any way you'd be willing to freepmail a full copy of the article to those of us interested?
