The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

BRITISH SPY BLASTS LABOR PARTY

A London judge announced Tuesday that the trial of radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri, charged with soliciting murder of non-Muslims and stirring up racial hatred, will start on July 4.

But that July date has gotten British freelance investigator Glen Jenvey, whose detective work played a major part in bringing down Hamza, more than a little steamed.

While the date of the upcoming British election has not yet been formally set – and British Prime Minister Tony Blair could technically serve until mid-2006 if he so chose –  it is widely expected to be in May 2005 ( http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/Story.asp?Article=100700&Sn=WORL&IssueID=27292 )

In an e-mail interview, Jenvey said the date will allow "the Labor government to cover up its failures. It stops the British press reporting on the extremist Hamza and other al- Qaeda prisoners who the Labor Party allowed into the UK to attack America and other nations."

Jenvey said despite his hard work that he has received no thanks from the British police or England's MI5 "because (I) uncovered their mistakes."

Jenvey claimed that some members of the Labor Party "invited the Tamil Tigers to a Garden Party which was watched and filmed by the Sri Lankan Secret Service. This is the same group that killed a Sri Lankan Head of State and a former Indian Head of State and threatened even a member of the Royal family and other political leaders. The Labor Party is too soft on terrorists."

According to Jenvey, "The Sri Lankan Secret Service wanted to see if the Labor Party would insult India and Sri Lanka by inviting the Tigers and they did."

The Tamil Tigers have been described by the British Broadcasting Corporation ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/526407.stm ) as "a formidable fighting force involved in guerrilla attacks against the Sri Lankan armed forces and on political targets. (Their) power base remains economically deprived Tamil agricultural workers whose families lost their livelihood due to economic reforms in the late 1970s, as well as unemployed urban Tamil youth who faced economic and social discrimination."

They are based, according to Jenvey, in London at  211 Katherine Road, Eastham.

Jenvey said the way to get serious and rid the United Kingdom of terrorist groups is by voting for the Conservative (Tory) Party.

According to Jenvey, a whole variety of British officials are successfully hiding information about al-Qaeda by putting the Hamza trial after the elections.

Blair's government, Jenvey claimed, is "covering up the failure of MI5 and the police, who never knew major terrorist group was plotting attacks on the British public and American intelligence just miles from MI5 headquarters.

"Real military intelligence officers are scared the UK will be the link that al-Qaeda will use to attack western countries," Jenvey said. "The Prime Minister needs to understand MI5 failed everyone and the police looked the other way. We need a leader like (Conservative party leader Michael) Howard, not a blind Home Secretary (David Blunkett, who resigned in Dec. 2004. ( http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0501070277jan07,1,2773151.story?coll=chi-newsnationworld-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true ). MI5 is not working as it took a private group to uncover the London links of al-Qaeda then the government still did not act."

Jenvey charged Britain's MI5 with being a "political tool of the Prime Minister."

He added thatBlair has "misled the public by making the trial of Abu Hamza after the election. With reporting restrictions in place the British government is taking the issue of extremist terrorist off the election issues," he said. "Labor Party members were emailed about al-Qaeda members in London and their response was ‘We are not interested in al-Qaeda being in the UK.'"

In October, Xinhuanet reported ( http://en.ce.cn/World/Europe/200501/05/t20050105_2759951.shtml ), British prosecutors charged Hamza with 16 offenses including one under section 58 of the Terrorism Act which relates to the possession of a document containing information "likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism."

He also faces 10 charges of soliciting murder, Xinhuanet reported, and four charges of "using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior with the intention of stirring up racial hatred" and one charge of possessing eight video and audio recordings intended for distribution to stir up racial hatred.

Jenvey said additional information about this subject may be found in Neil Doyle's book "Terror Tracker" ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/184018874X/qid=1105223924/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_11_1/026-5932494-9960422 ).

This London news article reads as tho it was in the U.S.

200 leave homes over blast fears
More than 200 people have been forced to leave their homes after a lorry fire spread to garages and
workshops which contain gas canisters.

Homes were evacuated after the fire broke out in Hanley Grove, Cricklewood, north-west London, on Friday
night.

The fire is under control but firefighters are still at the scene amid fears of an explosion. It is not known if
the cause is suspicious.

Cordons will stay in place until Sunday, police said.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said eight engines were called to the fire just before midnight and 40 firefighters
are still at the scene.

Canisters cooled

The acetylene canisters will need to be cooled for at least 24 hours to make them safe, a LFB spokesman
said.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area, especially the closed roads of The Vale, Claremont Road,
Somerton Road, Thorveton Road, Handley Grove and Claremont Road.

And trains are no longer running between Luton and St Pancras, although a bus replacement service is in
place.

Train operator Midland Mainline has taken the unusual step of withdrawing tickets from sale for services
between Nottingham and London because of disruption on alternative rail routes on Saturday.

No injuries have been reported.

Evacuees staying at a nearby community centre are likely to stay there all day.

thank GOD the power and my pc came back to life...plus, it was getting a little cold...

Yep, we got one of those hand crank radios too.
Good reception.
We used it twice last year and that was very good.

US troops facing deadlier bombs in Iraq
Saturday 08 January 2005,

More powerful bombs are being used to target US soldiers in Iraq, a senior Pentagon military official has said.

Army Brigadier General David Rodriguez on Friday said the trend of using more powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) has become prominent over the last two weeks.

“We have notice in the recent couple of weeks that the IEDs are all being built more powerfully, with more explosive effort in a smaller number of IEDs,” Rodriguez told reporters at a Pentagon briefing.

His comments came a day after a roadside bomb targeted a US military convoy in Baghdad, killing seven soldiers.

“There are a lower number of IEDs, but they have been more powerful,” Rodriguez said.

Enemy tactics
The general could offer no explanation for the new tactic, including whether or not those fighting US troops were using new experts to cobble together explosive shells and other devices.

But he said the military was using a broad effort to detect and defeat IEDs by studying enemy tactics, shifting US military procedures and boosting intelligence efforts.
“We will continue to watch that carefully,” he said.

Defence Department spokesman Lawrence Di Rita noted at the briefing that US commanders in Iraq had said more IEDs were being discovered before they could explode.

Recent photo of Mujahideen in action and accompanying translated thread:

#1
Photo taken yesterday evening before the attack against the Zionist camp that seriously wounded 13 Zionists.

#2
They are beautiful.

#3
The missles or the Mujahideen?

#4
One is not able to see the faces of the Mujahideen, OTOH, the missles are well decorated. If they send some to Sderot, they better send decorated missles. It's more jovial.

#5
It's surely a New Year's gift.

#6
They are very well built, despite the Palestinians' lack of arms. Frankly, I am surprised that they managed to build some missles.

This same article appears on several of your links. Here's most of it translated from Le Figaro:

Syria: a corridor for Al Qaeda?
Charles Lambroschini
January 7, 2005

The border between Syria and Iraq is a sieve. To the point where George W. Bush is considering punishing Damascus with severe sanctions.

This is what Richard Armitage, assistant to Colin Powell in the State Department, is going to say to Syrian authorities. As a warning signal, Washington would be able to begin technical measures which would have the effect of cutting off the Syrian banking system from the world.
If they need to, the Americans could then pass some reprisals because Damascus isn't only accused of being in favor of transferring funds that finance the uprising in Iraq. According to Washington, Syria has become the back door for the resistance,

The relatives of Saddam Hussein, and some generals, and his former army have obtained the right of asylum constituting a kind of Iraqi government in exile. Above all, Syria has been transformed into a corridor of arms and fighters en route towards Iraq. Notably, Al Qaeda militants, who, running from all corners of the Muslim world, want to continue the combat that they've conducted for fifteen years against the "American Satan."

In the area of al-Qamechliye and al-Hasakah, northeast of Syria, the "procedure" of transit is particularly well broken in. The triangle that forms this passage at the borders of Syria, Turkey, and Iraq is a tribal zone where boundary lines are always being blurred.

From one country to the other the nomads come and go freely, the population is sparse, the Syrian military presence is light. Certain officers profit by rounding off their balances allowing the infiltration in Iraq by fools of God claiming to be Osama bin Laden.

According to American officials, as late as last November, four teams of three to four men passed disguised as merchants. The Syrian officers accompany them just until the border. Next, a guide helps them renter Iraq. Thousands of dollars (pass) in secret, the operation is very profitable for the military who, moreover, are convinced that they are acting as Arab patriots.

Certain officers, in particular the information specialists, pocket these sums and more importantly are able to supply arms and explosives to the camps of Al Qaeda's network that improvise in the no man's land of al-Qamechliye and al-Hasakah. It is in this almost deserted sector that before surrendering to Iraq the militants devote themselves to their last training session. ...

But the Syrian government hurries to add that its borders with Iraq run for thousands of kilometers of desert, it is too long and situated in regions too desolate to be able to hermetically seal them. An excuse that the Americans interpret obviously as a camouflage of complicity, at least passive, with their enemies. ...

Damascus has not appreciated that France, friend of the Arabs, votes for resolution 1559 of the Security Council of the UN which, sponsored by the United States, has asked that Syria pull its troops out of Lebanon. Since the Israeli evacuation in 2000 the only occupying foreign forces who remain in the country of the cedars are Syrian.
