Warsaw Treaty Organization
Warsaw Treaty Organization or Warsaw Pact,alliance set up under a mutual defense treaty signed in Warsaw, Poland, in 1955 by Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union. The organization was the Soviet bloc's equivalent of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Initiated as an alliance made necessary by the remilitarization of West Germany under the Paris Pacts of 1954, the treaty was binding for 20 years but would lapse in the event of a general European collective security treaty.

Collective Security Treaty to be transformed into international regional organization



The Collective Security Treaty signatories, which are now establishing a new organization, have joined hand not against third parties but threats they are facing, emphasised the Russian leader.
Belarussian President Aleksander Lukashenko, said, on his part, that the Organization is going to be a strong military and political organization, a major centre of power in the post-Soviet area. The Organization will be so powerful that other military and political institutions, particularly NATO, will have to reckon with it, according to Mr Lukashenko.

Islamic Army in Iraq threatens attacks in US: website

DUBAI (AFP) - The Islamic Army in Iraq (news - web sites), one of the main armed groups fighting US forces in the war-torn country, has threatened to carry out attacks inside the United States, according to a statement posted on a website.

This year "will bring woes on America. The mujahedeen (holy warriors) have prepared big surprises for your sons outside America and a big surprise for you inside America," said the statement whose authenticity could not be confirmed.


The statement appeared to mark a disturbing shift in strategy by the shadowy Sunni Muslim group which has claimed a number of attacks and killings of hostages in Iraq, including an Italian journalist and two Pakistanis.


But last month it freed two French journalists held hostage for four months.


The mujahedeen "will take the battle from inside our country (Iraq) to yours," the statement said.


"We address you after you finished celebrating the new year, hoping that you are no longer drunk ... We will give American civilians a taste of what civilians in our country go through," said the statement, presented as a "message to the American people."


The message, which described the American people as "uncivilized" and "ignorant," claimed that "the whole world" hates America.


"Are you aware that the number of those who support striking America on its own turf has greatly increased?" it said.


"Last year was a picnic for your soldiers (in Iraq). The year 2005 will witness a quantitative and qualitative change in the operations against your army, which will go down in history," the statement said.


The Islamic Army was one of three radical Islamist groups, along with the Al-Qaeda linked Ansar Al-Sunna and the previously unknown Army of the Mujahedeen, which warned in an Internet statement last week they would strike at anyone taking part in the January 30 elections in Iraq.


"Those who participate in this dirty farce will not be sheltered from the blows of the mujahedeen," said the statement.

Terrorist Attack at the Erez Terminal



(IFM January 5, 2005) During the night IDF forces identified an armed terrorist, who infiltrated the Erez terminal, in the northern Gaza Strip.

Initial investigation shows that the terrorist infiltrated the terminal via the Palestinian tunnel that leads to the Israeli terminal, activated an explosive device that created a hole in the tunnel's wall and entered the courtyard connecting the Israeli and Palestinian checkpoints. The terrorist hurled grenades and opened fire at an IDF post near the courtyard. An IDF force which arrived at the scene shot the terrorist, killing him. No injuries were reported on the Israeli side but damage was caused to the crossing facility.

Strategic Air Command Ready to Hit Terrorist Bases



MOSCOW (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Air Force's strategic air command is ready to launch preventive strikes against terrorist bases in different parts of the world. This was disclosed to RIA Novosti in Moscow by Lt.-Gen. Igor Khvorov in charge of the afore-said strategic air command.

The strategic air command is ready to accomplish this objective; and we were prepared to do this a long time ago, Khvorov added.

Considering the potential and range of strategic bombers, one can say that terrorists will not be able to hide anywhere in the world, Khvorov stressed.

First of all, the strategic air command aims to defend the state against external enemies, so that any hotheads would not want to test the strength of our state, Khvorov added.

We both know what would happen if either you or I attempted to take razor blades on that airplane. If you happen to be of ME descent, the ACLU protects you no matter what you carry on board or how you act once inside the plane.

It's the "What, me worry?" concept. IMHO they have no clue the serious threat of suicide bombers. Since it hasn't happened here yet, they minimize or discredit the idea it could happen at all.

How many times have we read of ME types photographing bridges, chemical or nuclear plants or refineries and law enforcement not showing up at all or showing up so late the perpetrators have left the scene. Perhaps the larger issue is local budgets maxed out and homeland security taking a "back seat" to domestic budget issues. Certainly our country's "homeland security" needs some tweaking.
