Christmas Letter: President Bush Thanks His Blessings, and Wishes Peas on Earth
The Richmond [VA] Richmond Times-Dispatch ^ | December 24, 2004 | A. Barton Hinkle

Dear Friends and Family,

Gosh, it's hard to believe another year has come and almost gone! Where does the time go? It seems like only yesterday Dad was writing to you from this address and the twins were scampering around on the carpet in Texas. They grow up so fast! Jenna is going to be teaching at one of the public schools here in the District. Barbara still hasn't decided what she wants to do. We haven't had "the talk" with them yet, and I think they still want to live at home — the cafeteria, the linen service, it's just like college, right? Fine with me, but you know Laura! She says it's time the girls "grew up." I keep pointing out I didn't grow up until I was 40 and I turned out okay. She doesn't think that's funny.

Two thousand and four was a typical year for the Bush family in some ways, and not so typical in others. Maybe you saw in the news we've been making some changes. Colin's moving out, and Condi's moving into his space. Colin's a good man, a loyal man, and so is Condi. But I think she will do better at the head of the State Department because, see, diplomacy is about nuance and treachery and those things, and women are good at that. And we're dealing with an implacabacle enmity who kills at the whim of a hat. …

-snip-

I guess maybe you saw we had another election, which I won. I don't mean to talk up myself. It's not good to brag. I'm just saying, we beat John Kerry like a dusty rug. And that's all I've got to say about that.

-snip-

If I were to describe the author of this screed in proper context I would get the big "ZOT!" so in the spirit of a compassion, I will only describe him as a malignant hemorrhoid in desperate need of ectomy!

I guess this week they've decided President Bush is dumb again. The media and the Left just don't learn. President Bush keeps beating them in everything almost and they still don't have a clue.

I think toilet paper writer may not have gotten over 1988 when -- they got Bush wacked on a Quayle hunt.

But seriously, it is time to flush the Johns and move along...

I will be in dire need of a toilet bowl if there is more toilet bowl, errr, toilet paper writing like this, and cry-baby stories like John Kerry demanding a recount in Ohio. Some folks need to get a life.

For others, Its a wonderful Life!

I presume that this was supposed to be funny. At least I think the author thought it was funny, anyway. Typical lib moron. With folks like these, the prospect for a century of GOP rule looks better by the day. The real morons are the folks who had literally billions of dollars potentially at their disposal, an entire media machine, and heaps of 527s to promulgate their agenda through and still managed to somehow blow the election. That, to my mind, is idiocy in action.

The ignorance of these people is truly staggering. If I were a lesser man, I'd have built me one heck of a superiority complex by now. I'm finding it harder to respond to this stuff with straight anger...outright mockery and laughter seem to be the order of the day anymore. The scary thing is that these people have little kids and vote for the president with you and me.

Well, I voted for W., and I thought the piece was charming.

It's no secret the man speaks, well, oddly, sometimes. And he is not a flawless statesman.

But, he has defended the nation and, in doing so, upheld free institutions everywhere. His re-election was a blessing.

Merry Christmas to you!

Richard F.

" . . . outright mockery and laughter seem to be the order of the day anymore."

Dittos. Derision seems to be the only way to respond anymore.
