However, a Taliban spokesman has denied arrest of the said commanders.

So why don't they arrest said taliban spokesman?

"Commanders" usually refers to a regional leader. The guy who runs the terrorists in a certain city or province. But it always means good intel.

That ISI-training, from all appearances, hasn't been worth a bucket of warmed-over spit.

Guess Mr. Gul wasn't quite as good as he thought he was, huh?

They are rolling up the Taliban leadership....this isn't the only leadership arrest lately. There has to have been a tipping point....something or someone is giving the good guys the intel.

I have a little different take. It may be that the arrest of Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan allowed the ISI and CIA to understand how AQ and the Taliban operated.

They learned the kind of messaging they used, what routes they traveled, how they disguise themselves and what their operating methods are.

It seems like Khan's arrest was really the watershed moment in the WoT in the Afghan-Pakistan theater.

The Taliban were always a front for Al Qaeda/Pakistan's military-intelligence apparatus.

They're essentially a bunch of sub-literate seminary students.

If we're ever going to turn the tide against terror, our policymakers should start heeding the advice of Bernard Henri-Levy.

I doubt that alone would be sufficient to roll these guys up like they have been. After all their lines of communications have been relagated to mere couriers for months.

I suspect there is a tipping poing, as the Afgans see things improving. They have seen over a year now with no warlords, no public executions in stadiums, no public flogging of women. They've seen the return of relative peace, voting, music, etc.

The tipping point that has been reached is probably that point where the common man in will drop a dime (or afgani "pul") on these clowns. There are probably so few of them left that no one fears doing this. My bet is the dime droppers are probably Mothers sick of seeing their sons slaughtered in service to islam.

I have read recently there are 100 to 150 in the Taliban leadership group still on the run....and it looks like we are rolling up quite a few of them recently.
