The New York Republican Party's top lawyer has been arrested on a charge of attacking his wife, The Post has learned.

Jeffrey Buley, 44, was arrested and arraigned in town court in Bethlehem, an Albany suburb where the couple owns a home, last month after being accused by his wife, Cheryl Ritchko-Buley, 40, of a drunken assault, official records show.

So there nothing.

Many women have many reasons for maintaing the use of their maiden names........it NEVER justifies them getting beaten by their spouses.

I'd rag on a guy that took her name as well!!!!

Our daughter has her daddy's last name only, sans my hyphen mistake.

I thought it was a real Republican, but clicked and discovered it's a New York Republican. Drunken brawls wit da wife. Holidays do that to some people.

I would never presume to tell my wife if she would hyphenate or not. I would think it was silly if she did.

Even if it's mutual combat, he shouldn't be striking her. That's no man.

I don't give a rip who you were talking to. You ignored the proof on this thread that there are reasons beyond feminazism for the hyphenations.

It's definitely apparent my husband is far more secure in his masculinity than you.

OOPS - mistake on my part.

I have no intentions of changing the last name I use on a daily basis - I am willing to change my legal name to get rid of the hyphen if one of those complaining about the hyphenated names are willing to pay for the legal hoops I must jump through to do so.

My last name is hyphenated because when I got married at age 37 and was handed a pen and told by the judge to "sign here" I signed - and realized I signed my standard signature and had to add hislastname.

No political statement, no feminazi reasons - I just made a mistake.

Darlin' girl, I don't even know why yer bothering explaining. :-)

I know one woman who was so brow beaten by her husband that she changed her FIRST name, because he insisted she take his name in marriage.

His surname was Curtin. Her first name was Annette.

Now could you imagine living your life as Annette Curtin? (No, me neither). SHE now goes as Ann Curtin. But she should have double-barrelled her name. If she was Annette Malone-Curtin, there wouldn't have been a problem.

I agree. And now, back to the Women with Hyphenated Names Sometimes Need Beating program.

I understand what Xenalyte is saying. She used hyperbole to express an idea that has a grain of truth. How are we ever going to get the pendulum to swing back to traditional roles for marriage if women don't want to fully honor their promise of commitment to a husband?

Hyphenating your name says a lot about how you feel about your spouse. He's not good enough to fully claim you as his wife? You're going to make your own name and then dump him?

How did that happen? Did she castrate him?

In fact, it seems he was all too eager to hand them over on his own.

I cannot stand Teresa Heinz Kerry. She is awful. Just awful. Our religion forbids us to strike a woman, although I admit, I do it all the time, and I know I shouldn't. But if she were my wife, as Allah is my witness, I would not stop beating her.
We could not stop laughing when we heard him say that on SNL. It's rare for us to even watch it since the writing is so awful but that line alone made it worth watching.

I got a bit "tetchy" because of some of the comments made in reference to spousal abuse upon hyphenated wifenames.

I'm not thrilled about having a hyphenated name (it's a pain in the rear for those times of a legal signature being necessary) but my husband doesn't give a hoot one way or the other.

I understand your cousin's wife's reasoning, because I did the same thing, and if I were to go back into broadcasting now I would seriously consider using my maiden name again -only because there are some markets in this region where the name is still remembered. But going back into broadcasting is not on my to do list in the near future.

We have a mutual "consider you a friend" society going on here. I don't think any less of you for disliking hypenated names of married women. I'm not thrilled wirh it, myself. But I made the mistake and have to live with it.

My husband doesn't care and that is ALL that matters to me.

Merry Christmas, my good FRiend.
