A horse is dead and its rider in critical condition after colliding with a car in northeast Las Vegas.
The accident happened about 6:00 PM Tuesday on North Walnut Road and Judson Avenue near East Lake Mead Boulevard. Police say the horse and rider darted into traffic, hitting a 1994 Chevrolet Beretta driven by 22-year-old Noe Renteria.
52-year-old Mike McCutcheon was thrown from the horse. The horse died shortly after the collision.
McCutcheon was taken to a local hospital. A 13-year-old juvenile inside the car suffered minor injuries. Renteria was not injured.
The accident remains under investigation.

I had an old ford escort that lost a collision with a horse (before I owned it). It was being driven down a dirt road, and there was a horse on the side of the road. Just as the car was coming even with the horse, the horse turned with it's butt out in the road. It's butt wiped out almost the entire right side of the car. The horse was not injured.
Anytime that somebody asked me what happened to the car, I would honestly answer, "it was just some horse's ass."
Thank God there was no SUV involved!
Very sad.
My brother just last night fell of his horse (my horse actually).
The horse ran a quarter mile home.
Fortunately, everyone was fine. (until I beat the crap out of my brother for being stupid)

Never mess with a Beretta, or a Smith & Wesson. A Colt is okay if you're a horse.
Never bring a horse to a demolition derby.
QUESTIONS:
Was the rider in control, or had to horse bolted?
What the Hell was the rider doing anywhere near vehicle traffic? Not good, unless you are in a parade.
Fell of his horse, is that innuendo?
My brother lost control and did not slow the horse down.
We live on a dirt road and have horse riders going by every day.
I has my Opal Cadet was totaled by a cow on a country road many years ago. I came over a blind curve on a downhill and slammed into Bossy at about 50 miles and hour.
The owner of the cow later tried to sue me for hitting the cow that had to be destroyed and refused to compensate me for my damages even though her fence was down and it was not a free range area.
She lost the suit but I never got more than market value for my car from MY insurance company.
I have horse riders every day going past my house. They are nice to see, but they make me a little nervous when I have to drive past them. I'm always wondering if they are going to bolt into the road, so I go very slowly. So far, so good.
Were you due more than that?

I live near Ramona, California, hence my screen name.
There are almost more horses in this area than people.
Most people here know that: A. You slow down going by horses-especially if you pass them from the rear.
B. If you have a noisy motorcycle, you shut it off until the horse riders get by.
Occasionally, we get some fools up here from San Diego/Los Angeles megalopolis.
My horse was a Riverside (CA) Police Horse before I got him, and those things don't bother him. But, newer horses can be startled.
We don't know, I'd assume at least a momentary loss of control. In fairness on your second point, I grew up in the country and used to ride all over our area, along country roads to the points where we could ride off into the woods. Sometimes we rode right into town. Was a small town, but town all the same.
I've been considering whether I would do that again recently, because there are some trails not too far from my home that I'd like to check out. We don't yet have a trailer and can't go on trail rides whenever we like.
As a teen, I had fewer fears.
Ah.... fair enough.
