Fellow FReepers. How do you feel about WD-40 as a firearm lubricant?
NEVER EVER EVER!!!! WD-40 is a penetrant and it will seep into pistol primers and cause misfires!!
WD40 is a penetrent, not a lubricant.
It's great for freeing up what's stuck, but it provides next to no lubrication and it causes rust.
"Fellow FReepers. How do you feel about WD-40 as a firearm lubricant?"
Not good for guns, bicycles, motorcycles, door hinges, penetrating oil, cutting oil, protectant, or lubricating oil.
I can think of no use for WD-40 that dozens of other products can do SO much better. THROW THE STUFF AWAY!
I would use WD-40 on garden tools or some such but not on any firearm.
I was brought up on the stuff until I noticed it turned to varnish after awhile. I had misfires with a Ruger .22 Mark 1 which under most conditions is nearly impossible.
Now I use RemOil or BreakFree. I gave my son a bottle of Militec for his Iraqi Duty. I'll try to buy another bottle one of these days. The problem is every Christmas, someone always buys me a gun cleaning kit. The various oils seem to last quite a long time.
