I would use WD-40 on garden tools or some such but not on any firearm.
I was brought up on the stuff until I noticed it turned to varnish after awhile. I had misfires with a Ruger .22 Mark 1 which under most conditions is nearly impossible.

Now I use RemOil or BreakFree. I gave my son a bottle of Militec for his Iraqi Duty. I'll try to buy another bottle one of these days. The problem is every Christmas, someone always buys me a gun cleaning kit. The various oils seem to last quite a long time.

I picked up the sendero sf, stainless, fluted barrel from one of friends that was going through a divorce and he'd only had about 50 rounds through it (the gun not the X). Because he gave me he'd gave me 3 boxes of brass w/ 10 of the rounds unfired. I'd have chosen a different caliber but the price was right and and I knew the troop and he took care of his firearms so it was a good buy. I figure it's not a plinker. I zeroed it with a regular 3-9X VariXIII Leupold at 200 yards and use the 180 factory nosler partition from remington which it likes. I have got two mulies and one elk with it thus far and they were all one shot. I figure if I get my Elk and mule deer every year for the next twenty I'll be 70+ years old by then and with a pre-season zero and the two rounds for the harvest.....that's a hunnerd rounds er so and if I shoot it out before that I'll be knocking on remingtons door.

I am getting ready to put the new burris short mag 4-14X scope on the sendero and put the leupold on a older Remington 700 in 30-06 I have.

I think if ya reload any round "hotter" vs common sense hunting with better bullet design and placement ya risk burning up the throat.... and then we get into cleaning a rifle properly protecting the crown etc etc....that will toss off the accuracy too as ya know.

I recently had an Aunt pass away that left me her 7MM rem mag Rem 700 that she was given by my grandfather on her birthday when I was about 10 years old. Grampa took me out to his shop and showed me the rifle and it was about 1962 or so and I believe the 7MM remingtom magnum was a new caliber about then. Anyway he gave it to her and that was that. When she passed away she left the rifle to me and when I opened the package there was about 60 pieces of brass with a small note as to what each shot hit , when and where over her 40 plus years of hunting with that rifle up till her death at 75. Each note was rolled and stuffed into the empty brass and stored in the original boxes etc etc.......It'll be a treasure for me to hand down to my son some day...... pretty cool to read her short account as to the weather, the time and date and weight/points etc of the harvested game .

She was special ....tough old bird .......Stay safe !

Why has there NOT been a "gun" made with an Molybdenum alloy.?.
Since Molybdenum is a self lubricating "like" metal..

IIRC the chamber on the M16A2 is made of the stuff. My M1A is coated on the exterior with the propietary ROGARD finish with the insides coated with their NP3 finish and both are "self lubricating." I can shoot thousands of rds and just wipe the piece down and be good to go. But it's a finish over steel. It's rust and corrosive resistant. But steel beneath. I wouldn't trust an alloy metal (not even titanium).
