Catholic League president William Donohue commented today on some disturbing responses to Christmas:
In San Francisco, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a band of characters the Los Angeles Times affectionately calls a group of queer nuns, has been bashing Christmas all month. In Minneapolis, gay-themed Christmas bashing has been happening at the Hennepin Center for the Arts and the Brave New Workshop. To understand why this is going on, consider what one New Hampshire non-Christian said when asked about Christmas celebrations in the schools: Its offensive to those who dont celebrate it. Better yet is Phil Goodstein, a Denver historian who recently labeled the nativity scene utterly obnoxious. Julie Wells, also of Denver, confesses that I wish they had kidnapped the Baby Jesus when they kidnapped Rudolph, adding that she fantasizes about driving a Chevy Blazer over a crèche. And both atheist Christopher Hitchens (always the contrarian), and Dallas Cowboy fullback Darian Barnes, boasted over the weekend how much they hate Christmas.
One of the most offensive incidents this Christmas season occurred recently in Plainfield, Illinois, outside of Chicago. At Central School, a song called I Hate This Holiday was listed in the holiday concert program. The song, which is really a parody from the choral Frostys First Adventure, was taken by school bus driver Carmen Brown as a real slap in the face at Christians; she called for a boycott of the concert. In stepped Linda DiLeo, the schools principal. She, too, thought the song was meant to offend, but nonetheless justified it: We have Jewish children, we have children who celebrated Ramadan a couple of weeks ago. We take into account that we arent all celebrating the same holiday and try to put on programs that everyone can celebrate.
In other words, DiLeo thinks it is necessary to bash Christians at Christmastime because Jews and Muslims dont celebrate Christmas. This is rank bigotryagainst all three religious groupsand that is why we are making a formal complaint to the Illinois State Board of Education.
I'll look for it tomorrow, it's here somewhere in all my papers.
Take a look at a cartoon in this week's Village Voice that shows the people in the Nativity scene as little vibrators.
I'm really beginning to hate people that hate Christmas.
Bingo. Ping.
Go Bill go!
When are we going to stand up and stop this crap from happening. We sit back and allow the God haters to run things.
It's good for business, there's no doubt about that. But the events are real, and his business is a worthy one. He acts as a canary in a coal mine and as a Catholic, cultural Rambo with brains. We need a thousand more like him.
The left is right about one thing. Silence is consent. And Americans have demonstrated the fact that they are easily cowed. So a strident opposition is crucial to fighting leftist propaganda.
Well, there seems to be changes on the horizon. People are fighting back regarding the Nativity Scenes and music. That's all it takes. Our voices to be as big and loud as the opposition. They are NOT the only ones with rights. We ALL have rights. The right to not say God in a sentence...the right to look at a Nativity Scene but don't care about it cause it doesn't hurt anyone, the right to not say the pledge...they have ALL THOSE RIGHTS but...they aren't satisfied...they want to take it away from us. Nope. No way, no how. Not gonna happen. The people have awakened. You know....like the sleeping Giant line in the movie Tora, Tora, Tora after the Japanesed bombed Pearl Harbor. Faith and patience...both strong attributes.

So what? If someone doesn't want to celebrate Christmas, then don't.
Meanwhile....
Leave the rest of us alone. We're trying to have a fun.
Not necessarily:
Jeremiah 10:2-4: Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
And you Donohue bashers don't get it: He's exposing to the light all the anti-Christian nonsense, especially the double-standards, that exist in the culture. Good for him, and good for us Christians. As Aquinasfan said, if only we had a bunch more like Donohue, we'd be doing okay. May God send us a hundred more like him!
Catholic League bump. Catholic Freepers should go to the website and join today.
Yes. I read it.
(If I had posted my first thoughts I might have been banned)
I work for MCI in tech support, I talk to large corporate customers all day. There is no company policy against it but most of my co-workers are afraid to say Merry Christmas to anyone. Except of course for me. I have been making sure to say it partially because it is what I beleive and partially just to see if I can piss someone off. The company does not offially refer to Christmas(it's The Holidays) just so they can be inclusive. Makes me sick!
Thank you for the scripture. I gather from your post you are pointing out that there are Christians who do not exactly relish Christmas. I do not think this is where the left is coming from. I believe the left attacks Christmas because it (often without realizing it) hates Christ and Christians.
I understand the origins of "Christmas" and in all honesty I would have no problem with the holiday being dropped. It is not the birth of the Lord and I am not totally comfortable with us keeping a pagan holiday and just adjusting it to suit us.
I also have a little bit of trouble with the Sabbath being changed to Sunday. I don't understand why this came about.
Agreed. The leftist jihad against Christmas trees must be resisted even by those who aren't too keen on Christmas trees. I'd defend a creche more enthusiastically though.
BTW, that scripture probably refers to carved idols, not actual green trees -- and, in context, there's an implication of worship, which we certainly don't do. Nevertheless it's worth a chuckle or two around the holidays.
