Report: Two French Journalists Released by Radical Islamic Group Four Months After Kidnapping
BAGHDAD, Iraq Dec 21, 2004 Two French journalists who were kidnapped by a radical Islamic group in Iraq four months ago were released Tuesday, Al-Jazeera television network reported.
The station said it received a statement from the kidnappers, the Islamic Army in Iraq, claiming that the two men were handed over to the French Embassy in Iraq Tuesday afternoon.

Probably stink to much for even the terrorists to keep them around...
Best Christmas present these two and their families could ever get.
Rejoice! The terrorists are losing. Yeah!!
I believe these guys were the "headscarf hostages." I wonder how much Chirac paid up.
"Probably stink to much for even the terrorists to keep them around..."
What?!
These people are freed and you're disappointed?
Are you with the terrorists?
I thought they had long ago been released. I wonder if they will develop Stockholm syndrome?
Are you with the frogs?
This will run the news cycle in mainland Europe for a few days. Their kidnapping has been and continues to be major news there.
What?
They say there are three kinds of people in this world; those who make things happen; those who watch make things happen; and those who ask: What happened? You, apparently are of the latter category.
Why don't you speak your mind instead of parroting what the few are telling you what to think and say.
The point is two French hostages are freed and you're disappointed that they are. Suppose they were, God forbid, people you knew, or better, relatives of yours, wouldn't you be happy that they were freed? Or, do you side with the terrorists instead of our European brothers and sisters? No need to answer this latter question as you already have given assent to it by your silence in prior post. Consider it a rethorical question.
I can't believe it. Hostages are freed and you're unhappy about it. If you care to respond, address the issue, please, and answer the question: Are you with the terrorists or with us? A simple YES or NO answer would suffice.
"This will run the news cycle in mainland Europe for a few days."
As it should be.
Anyway, I'm happy they're freed. It indicates, to me, that the terrorists are losing each time hostages are freed. Relatives, friends and fellow workers must be ecstatic at the news. Best Christmas present.
Merry Christmas.
I never said I was not happy that they were released. I am happy anytime people are spared from death. I have been Thinking freely all 54 years of my life, and I don't need a lecture from you on humanity. You really should try to control your feelings better. It was a snide comment, having to do with the general thought of the French not bathing very regularly. Please accept my apology if this observation disturbed you.
The real question is 'Are the French with us or the terrorists?'
I think we know the answer.
Chirac is the model for Winston Churchill's classic definition of an appeaser: namely, one who feeds a crocodile in the hope that it will eat him last.
I don't know whether they developed Stockholm syndrome or were sympathetic to the terrorists all along, but they did wear the symbolic headscarves. It's hard to say until they speak freely whether they were truly sympathetic to their captors, or going along with them to stay alive. Who knows what any of us would do in that situation? I am furious with the French because of their compliance and alliance with radical islam, but the humanity in me is glad that there are at least two heads we don't have to witness being hacked off by barbarians.
"I never said I was not happy that they were released."
True. You didn't put it in those terms. But, to say: "Probably stink [the hostages, that is] to much for even the terrorists to keep them around..." is equivalent to being disappointed, unhappy about their release.
There is an enemy out there intent on destroying America and Western culture. Those hostages are not our enemies and neither is Italy, Poland, Rumania, Britain and all other European countries that are pro-America. It's true that France, Germany, Belgium and the Russians did not support us in this war, but that does not mean that they're our mortal enemy. To ridicule and demean the whole is to ridicule and demean our conservative friends in Europe. To do so, is to isolate ourselves and inflict wounds upon ourselves and accelerate the extinction of our culture and heritage to the merriment of the enemy.
Have a Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year.
Baraonda: Look, I have a red pen in my hand.
Earthdweller: That's not a red pen you have in your hand. That's an hyppopotamus.
Is that the conform program you're talking about?
