BUSH'S IMMIGRATION PET PHRASES
michellemalkin.com ^ | 12/20/2004 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 12/20/2004 12:21:42 PM PST by nanak

After the White House news conference this morning, Bill Kristol on Fox News praised President Bush's remarks about "immigration reform" as "eloquent." Beg to differ. The president's open-borders statements were empty, garish platitudes strung together sloppily like cheap Christmas lights:

Illegal aliens "do the job Americans won't do." President Bush used that dog-tired phrase about a half-dozen times during today's press conference as he defended his impending illegal alien amnesty plan. Mark Krikorian effectively puts this mindless rhetoric to rest here.

"Family values don't stop at the Rio Grande." Uh huh. Well, terrorists and gang members and drunken murderers and cop-killers don't stop there either. And based on past and recent experience, granting amnesty to 13 million law-breakers will only result in more illegal immigration, not less.

We need immigration reform that "recognizes reality." Rank-and-file immigration enforcement officials give a real reality check on the amnesty debacle here, here, and here.

As immigration enforcement veteran/former U.S. prosecutor Peter Nunez put it:

[W]e need to stop the talk of a coming amnesty, or of a guest worker program, both of which, by themselves, serve to encourage additional illegal immigration. What kind of message are we sending when we dangle that possibility before people desperate enough to put their lives at risk? Doesn’t this kind of talk also indicate that we really don’t care much about law breaking, that we don’t really care that much about the rule of law, that these immigration laws exist only as a token objection to the violation of our sovereignty? Now, that is eloquent.

Thank you President Bush

It's always President Bush's fault to you Joe.

Hope you got a nice space within Harry Reid's new digs as Senate minority leader.

The ultimate place for you would be if it was facing and had a window towards hillary's office, IMO.

Won't happen. There is simply no way to send 8 million people back to Mexico. It is logistically impossible.

One time cost.
The "impossible" part is the will and the commitment.

A self-fulfilling prophecy.

I know a number of people who make their living doing construction.

Contractors hiring illegal aliens can grossly under bid law abiding contractors, and many small construction firms just cannot compete.

Even here in Indiana, you will find 30 illegals living in houses packed with wall to wall mattreses. They get no benefits, payroll taxes are not payed on them, they're just invisible to the system

This business about illegals doing jobs Americans don't want to is just BS.

Many people in this country still make their living with their hands. Are all these folks doing jobs Americans don't want to do?

I don't think so!

Michelle seems to be calling for mass deportations, nothing less.

But take caution when demanding this. The real world I live in would go berzerk and Bush would be impeached if there were mass deportations of Mexican illegals. Picture it: families with little kids being herded onto busses under the watching National Guard. Cameras rolling, network TV chiming in. Kids crying.

This is reality, not some fascist liberal fantasy... because does anyone think 8 million illegals will just up and head South without coercion, in a single silent movement? Sure I'd like 'em gone. But what actual form would it take?

If any Freeper, or Ms Malkin, can paint us the picture of a seamless, practical mass deportation without sparking a politically deadly P.R. firestorm, I'm all ears.

Bush has a plan to at least identify, track and return these illegals as guest workers. It's a blue card, with ID and an address and employer, good for 3 yrs only if employed and paying into the system. No implied citizenship. I take GWB at his word, he's earned that from me. On the democrat left, you have blanket mass amnesty that keeps all the invisibles intact, workers AND criminals. Free Green cards.

On the right you have this insistence on mass deportation and the hell that would follow, including bringing the conservative/GOP momentum to a grinding stop with just one evening's news clips.

In marketing, we work with the world as it is, not as we'd wish it to be, it's mere brutal honesty. People are lazy and vain. Emotional stories sell. The mainstream press is gunning for the Prez. Perception is reality. We deal with it and use it to our advantage, selling products to the stubborn and the wary.

Shrieking Salvadoran mothers with crying, fearful little kids being forced onto a bus will explode this nation. The "right" will never recover from the inevitable bad press.

I expect the democrats to be ignorant of the Law of Unintended Consequences, that's their most obvious flaw... but Freepers, Republicans and our friend Michele Malkin? This issue is a tar baby, and the left is hoping Republicans will take a poke at it.

Don't fall for it.

"Yeah right you voted for Bush in 00 and 04. Give me a break.

You probably, IMO, voted for Buchanan in 00(0.4% of the Presidential vote) , and Peroutka(0.2% of the Presidential vote), in 04.

Please don't and stop considering the majority of people on FR as fools."

I don't know about the majority, but if the shoe fits....

That's a start - next time you sell your car in the paper or advertise a garage sale, put in the ad "NIA" (No Illegal Aliens).

How do you determine that they are NOT Illegal?

Well of course when you go from 1,000 followers to 2,000, that is a !00% increase.

In 1990 there were 140,000 Muslims living in Texas. I’d bet that number has increased a little.

I agree with the pres on this one... There are a bunch of illegals that go to my church and they seem like good people who are just looking for a better life. The truth of the matter is that I would do the same thing if I was them. They aren't hurting anyone for the most part.

Just warning you that you will be considered a "traitor to a traitorius church" by some on FR.

I live in the DC area. Recently saw one of Bush's heros sucking on a beer while behind the wheel of a pickup truck. Just doing the drinking and driving that Americans won't do for themselves.

This ever growing government is going to bring in the equivalent of TWO MAJOR cities of illegal aliens and new immigrants (many from Muslim countries) into our country EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

And just think, if they keep that up for twenty years, that will barely bring the ratio of workers to retirees to 3 to 1 instead of 2 to 1. It's 4 to 1 now.

How many millions more are enough Nick?

25 million more? 50 million more? 120 million more? When does this greed stop?

Should we open our borders to hundreds of millions of Chinese, Brazilians, those from El Salvador, Nicaragua, all of South America so all those retirees can play golf in Palm Springs?

We're not about to cast a dragnet over the entire country and demand everybody produce papers or get kicked out. Nor are we going to fine & jail employers and wrecks the agricultural industry.

Why not?
Financing this illegal group and breeding them forever is a bottomless money pit.

Unless you are relying on the School fairy, the hospital fairy, the welfare system fairy, the housing fairy...
Rounding them up and deporting them, one at a time, accomplishes two things. reduces the total, and sends the signal to new illegals that we are serious.

You run ads in all local newspapers in English, Spanish, and about 1/2 dozen other languages letting all illegal immigrants know that this is coming. If you can't show proper ID you're out and not coming back.

The hard part is the same as now, getting the govt to do anything.

The, current, illegals that have jobs get a form from the employer stating that they have a job waiting. When they come back across the border the employer is called to check the form. If all is well the, former, illegal becomes legal, pays taxes, etc.

After the first wave is in, anyone found in the USA being an illegal immigrant is considered to be a terrorist and treated as such.

What makes you believe that people are going to abide by this immigration policy (guest worker program) when they don't follow any other immigration laws?

How do you determine that they are NOT Illegal?

You could ask for a green card before selling, but that's not the point. We need to foster a culture that will begin DEALING with illegal aliens. It needs to be IN THE FACE of people everyday ... The politicians need to know this is an issue that won't go away, and we won't vote for those that won't act ...

Take the pledge - "I WILL NOT vote Republican in 2008 if they don't stop illegal immigration"

Great suggestion!
Wait.

What if the other major political party is also indifferent to the problem?
