Rangel Introduces 'Impeach Rumsfeld' Legislation
NewsMax ^ | Dec 20, 2004 | Limbacher

Rep. Charles Rangel, D-NY, announced on Sunday that he's introducing legislation to impeach Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

"I put in a bill for his resignation. It's shameful," Rangel told NBC's "News Forum" in New York. "Not only for his resignation, for his impeachment as well, because he would allow us to believe that he was shocked and he did not know exactly what we would be faced with [in Iraq]."

Rangel blamed Rumsfeld and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz for "advising the president to get rid of Saddam Hussein."

"It's embarrassing," he complained. "Here we are, the greatest nation in the world, the most powerful political military force in the world with a Third World nation with no army and we can't be prepared when we're putting our troops in harm's way?"

Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution states: "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

The Harlem Democrat did not specify the nature of Rumsfeld's alleged criminal conduct.

I'm not sure that Congress has any authority over a Cabinet member. They vote to confirm the nomination, and that is it. Thereafter, if the person is confirmed, it is up to the President to retain or dismiss the Cabinet member.

I believe that very point was raised on Fox this morning. President Bush is really the only person with the authority to actually remove him from office and he is standing by him

The Black Congressional Caucus is the KKK of the Hill.

At least the KKK admits their racial bias, who do these clowns in the CBC think they are fooling?

Rangel is just a nutjob.

True, but not as nutty as John Conyers or Sheila (I can't tell the moon from Mars) Jackson Lee.

It is. Charlie, you shouldn't charge for a absurd joke - even if you are one yourself.

I am torn on Rumsfeld.

I like how he shook things up at the Pentegon.
He forced a lot of dead-weight out.

But I also think he maybe too much a micro-manager.
He has the guys he wants running things that are supposed to be "in-Charge".
Now Rumsfeld needs to step aside and let them do what they are good at.

He kinda falls into the class of CEO that takes over huge companies and rebuilds them.
After they are rebuildt that CEO moves on because his speciality is rebuilding, not managing them.
