Two county deputies shot, along with suspect (Two ARIZONA COPS shot by ILLEGAL ALIEN!!!)
East Valley Tribune ^ | 12/17/2004 | Kim Smith and Kristina Davis

Two Maricopa County sheriff's deputies were shot Thursday during the serving of a search warrant in east Mesa. A suspect was shot by a third deputy.

Deputy Sean Pearce, who is the son of Rep. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, was shot in the abdomen. He was flown to Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, where he underwent surgery to remove part of his large intestine. Deputy Lew Argetsinger was shot in the hand and taken by ambulance to the medical center. Both were stable.

The suspect, Jorge Luis Guerra Vargas, 22, was flown to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix with nonlife-threatening facial injuries.

According to authorities, detectives with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office wanted to execute a search warrant at the mobile home of a homicide’s investigative lead, but asked Maricopa County SWAT team members to enter first to ensure their safety.

Lt. Dave Trombi said seven members of the team knocked on the door at 111 S. 91st Way at 6:35 a.m., announced their presence in English and Spanish, then broke through the door. They were a short distance inside when a subject opened fire.

Both deputies shot were wearing ballistic body armor, but Pearce was struck in an unprotected spot, Trombi said.

A third deputy returned fire on GuerraVargas, who was alone in the home, Trombi said.

Pinal County Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Minter said detectives had hoped to obtain evidence pertaining to a recent homicide in Hewlitt Station, a community near Queen Valley.

A hunter called deputies Dec. 5 after he found a body with a gunshot wound to the head buried under a pile of scrap lumber, Minter said.

Investigators found fresh tire tracks on the scene, and the clue led authorities to the mobile home.

Esteban Soto, the investigative lead in the case, was found Thursday in New Mexico and is being detained for questioning there.

Deputies are still working to identify the body, which is described as a 20- to 25-year-old Hispanic male.

Pearce has been on the force for 11 years, Deputy Argetsinger for three years.

Rep. Pearce, said he was in Washington, D.C., testifying on an immigration panel when he was told his son had been shot.

"He is feisty. He will do well," he said. "I guarantee that the moment he is allowed back, he will put that uniform on and be out there doing police work."

Russell Pearce also was shot in the chest and hand in the line of duty about 20 years ago while chasing gang members in Guadalupe.

Efforts to contact Argetsinger's family were unsuccessful.

My experience has been that with most things, be it employees or products, you get what you pay for.

Are you stating that labor unions are required for workers to be paid higher wages?

That line of thinking would almost be required to ask such a question as you did, about why Ford resisted unionization.

Since the fellow named Johnson was not an illegal alien, there is no equivalence between the outrage generated by the two crimes.

I think you are losing with your own supporters here. You are saying that getting shot by an illegal is worse than getting shot by someone else. Sometimes, it is best to walk away from an arguement.

Regarding 263, the guy made a typo and immediately corrected the typo on the next post. You should not hammer him for a typo.

Time for everyone to take a chill pill.

"I favor an immigration policy that realistically meets the needs of labor."

There is no great demand for labor in this country. Low skilled jobs are moving off shore by the millions.

"Once that policy is in place I favor tighter border control."

Immigration laws are in place now. You hereby advocate ignoring border control until the laws are changed so that as many or more immigrants from Mexico and Central America are allowed to enter the country legally as are now entering illegally. So your policy boils down to making all the illegal aliens legal aliens.

"My fear is that a faction of the anti-immigration crowd that is motivated by racism will succeed in convincing America to close the border before immigration reform."

You had to throw that race-baiting phrase "motivated by racism" in there, didn't you? Would the border be any more closed if the anti-immigration crowd is motivated by racism than if it is motivated by any other reason? Brain washed one note johnny.

"To them keeping Mexicans out is immigration reform."

Yes, because it is Mexicans, in their millions and millions, who are coming here and demanding to be taught in Spanish and to use Spanish in the work place. Native-born Americans are being put at a disadvantage in the work place since few are bilingual and that is often a requirement in our modern America workplace, given the huge numbers of unassimilated Hispanics in this country.

"This is pointed out by their opposition to The National Intelligence Reform Act of 2004, which added border patrol and standardization for identification documents."

They (we) are not against The National Intelligence Reform Act of 2004 because it added border patrol and standardization for identification documents. They (we) are against the bill as it was passed because it did not go far enough in controlling our borders and they (we) know that it was only by adding what we wanted into a bill that the Senate wanted that we had any chance at all of tightening up our border. Unfortunately, RINOOBL's like you are present in the Senate in great numbers.

"Our broken immigration quotas which leave Latinos little chance to enter the US without illegally entering, we will do a lot to reduce the flow of illegals."

I thought you claimed that this was a serious answer. This is nonsense. Latinos have the same opportunity as everyone else to bring in family and they do so in great numbers. There are millions and millions of poor Mexican, Central Americans, and South Americans who would love to come to this country. Your solution to illegal immigration is to allow them all to come to the country legally. No thanks, I want to continue to live in American, not in Mexico, transported north. I have my daughter in an elite private university and she is studying chemical engineering now and will be studying law when she gets her undergraduate degree, so she will be doing fine, even if the floodtide of Latino immigration you desire does occur. But I would rather my daughter and my grandchildren live in the same type of America that I and my parents lived in rather than the sort of society that Travis McGee describes as occurring in Sao Paulo.

"Then we will see bloody revolution in Mexico."

Better that they have another bloody revolution in Mexico than here in our country, which used to be a nation of laws.

"If we both tighten the border and punish business the effect could be synergistic."

I certainly hope so.

"We must have a way of filling the labor needs of business or risk losing the business and the jobs."

I am willing to lose any business that cannot make a profit except by employing uneducated, non-English speaking labor. Let them move to where the labor is and export their product to the US, rather than importing the labor.

Mexico would rightfully resent it if millions upon millions of Americans moved into their country, displacing Mexicans and demanding that Mexico change its culture to an American culture. So would any society worthy of the name.

When FR is supposed to be for the exchange of CONSERVATIVE ideas....what you are expounding is the destruction of our society

Some people might think that conservative ideas mean less govt. and individual freedom. That would mean if someone wants to hire someone from Mexico and someone in Mexico wants to be hired, and both do so of their own free will, that transaction should be allowed to happen.

Some other people might think conservative ideas embody the least govt. allowable which means open borders if possible or the least border restrictions given the imperfect world we live in.

the lack of a post on a particular subject proves nothing

Some might say that muslim silence when it comes to condemning the 911 bombings proves a lot.

I have not spent the time investigating their posts on other topics, but it seems unlikely that they are really conservatives.

Maybe you should take the time.

While the lack of a post on a particular subject proves nothing, a pattern of Muslims dancing in the streets and cheering the 911 bombings and the nearly complete silence across the Muslim world regarding atrocity after atrocity committed by Muslim terrorists, does speak volumes.

As tragic as any shooting is, did the shooting of Officer Johnson get or warrant the same attention that the attack that started a World War got?

Furthermore, 9/11 was done in the name of Islam. Does it perhaps occur to you that your analogy is not apt?

Too bad those "people" you mention aren't willing to pick up the tab for the overlooked expenses of the cheap labor they're "willing to hire", and expect the rest of us to. We needn't be subsidizing the cheap labor crowd.

Some people might think that conservative ideas mean less govt. and individual freedom.

They would be incorrect. Conservatism means limited government while protecting individual liberty.

Government should be limited to only those things it is empowered and obligated to do: provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, regulate interstate commerce, regulate immigration and naturalization, etc.

There isn't a conservative argument for open borders, though the Libertarians have one.

Generally speaking, you should not change or add anything to a title.

For example, I posted this article

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1218398/posts

And I did change the title from

Conservatives speak out against senator's speech

to

Ohio University College Republicans Protest John Edwards

And I felt bad about changing a title because I believe in the Fox News concept of "we report, you decide" and that editorializing should be in the comments, not in the article.

I did change the title only because the original title made would say next to nothing to anyone outside of the Ohio U. community.

If that's the one that's got Dane's, Cultural Jihad's, jveritas' and PRND21 brains in a knot, then I could understand where they're coming from.

I was kinda thinking it might be a cute little Hispanic gal with long flowing hair. Something along the lines of my neighbors daughter. My wife laughed everytime she came out this summer in one of her tight little outfits. She says I would automatically stop mid word to pause and enjoy the sights.

Sorry Guys, I can't post her picture. The Mrs told me not to even take one of her in those red shorts! Mean, isn't she?

"You are saying that getting shot by an illegal is worse than getting shot by someone else."

No, I am saying that there is naturally more outrage over someone who should not have been in our country committing a crime than there is over an ordinary criminal. Thus the outrage over the crime committed by Willie Horton, when he should have been in jail, instead of out committing crimes.

I am not saying that you would have enjoyed having been stabbed twenty-two times by a first time offender any more than you would have enjoyed being stabbed twenty-two times by Willie Horton, but the fact that Willie Horton should have been sitting in jail instead of stabbing anyone outside a prison, did cause additional outrage, just as the fact that this illegal alien should not have been shooting anyone outside of Mexico caused additional outrage.

Why can't we just open the floodgates to say, fifty million Chi-Coms who are not getting their "fair chance" at the American Dream?

We can't because they are Chinese and not European. It is the same reason that all Chinese were banned during the great European migration in the late 1880-1920's. It is the same reason that later Chinese were allowed to immigrate, as long as the yearly quote was less than 102.

Good Lord...Bravo Sierra on aisle 322. It saddens me that the Left of the GOP (which are nothing more than Rats in disguise, aiming for the same ends) and the Left of America are so incredibly intellectually dishonest and, frankly, pathetic. Almost like a total right-off in other terms. You should be forced to make that case, with that disgustingly-despicable statement, or be thrown off of FR...
