Volkswagen plans to build a car assembly plant in Russia's Moscow Region in 2006 at the latest, ITAR-TASS reported Friday, citing unspecified reports in the German media.

Volkswagen is expected to officially announce its plans for the plant on December 20, the media reports said.

Earlier this year, Volkswagen was reported to be considering the construction of a truck assembly plant in the Leningrad Region, as well as of unspecified production facilities in the Moscow Region.

Since the 1999 25% import tariff went into effect, a Jeep, Chrystler, Mercadies, BMW and Ford plant has openned. Toyota, Honda, Nissan have also stated they are openning plants. Now VW too. Before the tariff, not one plant was open and all autos were imports only.

SHHHHH jb6, don't you know the total prosperity can only be achieved from FREE TRADE. The total prosperity is when our (AMERICAN) living standard is at par with RAWANDA.

I wonder if they have to pay off organized crime, and what kind of chunk that will take out of their profits.

To some degree I'm sure. But here in the US we have to pay off organized crime to, whether they are collecting the garbage or running the union.

Yes, but usually not directly. At least not to the extent that I read is the case in Russia.

Isn't this when some mind numbed globalist repeats the communist propaganda that his socialist professor taught him, you know, "Should we have protected the buggy whip industry, too?"

Seriously, did you see in the news that China is going to impose tariffs on its own textile exports? China can tax their own exports because American trade policymakers are too stupid to do it themselves and reap the revenue.

What ever it is, it must be still worth the investment, since these cars are produced for the Russian market.
