ITHACA, N.Y. A nationwide poll finds nearly half of all Americans believe the U-S government should restrict the civil liberties of Muslim Americans.
The survey -- conducted this fall by Cornell University -- found that 44 percent favored at least some restrictions, while 48 percent said civil liberties shouldn't be restricted in any way.
Twenty-seven percent of the 715 respondents supported requiring all Muslim-Americans to register where they lived -- and 29 percent thought agents should infiltrate Muslim civic and volunteer groups.
The poll also found Republicans and people who described themselves as highly religious were more likely to support curtailing Muslims' civil liberties than Democrats or people who are less religious.
The executive director of the Muslim American Society says the news is disturbing, but not surprising.
The foundation of the religions, the holy books, of the Catholics, Jews, Mormons and 7th Day Adventists don't command them to kill those that are not them and enslave the rest by force of arms.
That would be the reason their civil liberties wouldn't be restricted.
I agree. It will become open season on them....and they know it.
Afterall, we are crazy Americans.

"...Hard to say what demonination the Church of Religious Science was, if it had any, so I suppose I would say that I am a non-practicing Presbyterian..."
Thanks, it makes it easier to understand the whole thread when you know the background on the participants. I dated a person years ago who was part of a non-denominational type of church...a society of friends/Quakers would be the best way to describe it. While different, they were very peaceful and friendly.
Over the past twelve to eighteen months I've started to have increasing concerns about several Muslim acquaintances whom I've known for 20+ years. A distinctly noticeable "circling of the wagons" is happening that I and other coworkers find truly puzzling... These people have been treated as equals for decades, but something is up with them because they don't even want to join the non-Muslims for lunch any longer. Curious stuff.

"Protestant version of islam..." yuck yuck.
APOSTATE=DEAD. Moving right along...'kill' mohammad and islam is gone...
Read what the muslims are NOT allowed to read; THE LIFE OF MUHAMMAD. See tagline for link to free pdf download.
That sounds just like what happened in France - they seemed ok, for decades, then they separated. Only France is now much worse.
Excellent point. Great Freeper and a Great American.
And so are the Muslims that plan mischief and are in waiting to execute it.
They think Bin Laden is a nut case.
The can only say that Bin Laden is a nut case. So can those who don't think Bin Laden is a nut case.
Many American Muslims are middle-class professionals who have a good life here and would not risk all their have achieved for this murderer Bin Laden.
Then by the word of their holy book, and the commands of their prophet, they are not Muslims, which makes them infidels.
Sad, but true.
But...I just remembered, I have pointed that out to you before. So let me draw even more attention to my obsession with learning the truth;
HEY EVERYBODY! DON'T WRITE ANYTHING MORE ABOUT ISLAM UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND THE MIND OF THE 'PROPHET'
FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE....READ THE BOOK!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS. PRAISE THE LORD. BLESS GWB & the US.
If you were surrounded by a group of brothers, and your thought is to kill them, would you hop up and kill one in view of the others and alert the rest to your intentions?
I think there are a lot Islamics here tonight...some have responded to you...Satan be upon them...
Islam hates the truth...
there is a difference, isn't there?
God blesses those who are peaceful as the dove, yet wise as the serpent. I do no think God blesses fools.
We have a winner here.
But don't hold your breath.
This government will import as many muslims as they can get away with. I mean, just look at the millions already pouring into our country illegally from the south. They don't give a damn.
Texas has one of the fast growing Muslim populations in the country.
Interesting, isn't it?
Very reminiscent of my wife's experience in high school. There was a group of about fifteen or twenty girls who all belonged to various incarnations of the local glee club through their entire schooling. Then somewhere between the end of tenth grade and the beginning of eleventh, several of the girls discovered they were black and the rest of the girls were not.
If they don't like my post, they can pucker up and kiss my red, white and blue A$$.
God forbid another 9-11....I believe there will be an exodus of muslims from America not seen since Moses led the Jews from Egypt.
But hey, that's just my opinion.
If that's true, I would think Texans would take care of that problem themselves.
Can the civil rights of Branch Davidians be restricted?
Um, no, Muslims declared war on non-Muslims a little over 1300 years ago. We've just been living through a 'hudna' as they call it, since oh, the last seige of Vienna, or maybe the Armenian genocide, depending on how you want to account things. When they're too weak to fight non-Muslims, they have an 'operational pause' presented to their opponents as 'peace' or at least a 'cease-fire'.
The problem is that our enemy is neither just active terrorists, nor all Muslims, but rather all Muslims who take seriously the dominant school of Koranic intepretation which holds that the violence-advocating suras have precedence over the peace-advocating suras.
For diplomatic reasons (the utility of getting those Muslims who adhere to different schools of intepretation, or who don't really care much, to be either neutral or actually allied with us) it's best to talk about being at war with 'the terrorists' 'extremists' etc. As a practical strategic matter planning ought to proceed on the assumption that all Muslims are enemies (since only a tiny minority follow another school of intepreation, and the ones 'who don't care much', while not enemies now are potential enemies.)
