San Francisco State University has been in the spotlight lately, and the picture that has emerged is not a flattering one.
Following last month's nationwide elections, members of the SFSU chapter of the College Republicans were confronted by an angry mob simply for setting up a table and handing out political literature. Members of the International Socialist Organization, the General Union of Palestinian Students and others surrounded the Republican students, shouting at them to "get out" of SFSU.
Although the exact details are still being disputed by the various parties, police reports and eyewitness accounts appear to back up the College Republicans. It seems that free political expression is no longer welcome at SFSU, at least not if one is espousing unpopular views.
A question arises: How did such a threatening environment become associated with a campus located in one of the most liberal and tolerant cities in the nation? The truth is that SFSU has a reputation for intolerance that goes back at least 10 years. In this case, Republican students, clearly a minority at SFSU, were the targets. But in the past, such animosity was directed mostly at Jewish students or those seen as supporting Israel. Jews at SFSU have been spat on, called names and physically attacked, as well as censured by the administration for defending themselves, even as their attackers went unpunished.

New column in SFGate.com, believe it or not!
Yep, the tolerant will only tolerate those who agree with them, and anyone who disagrees is the close-minded one, not the other way around. The libs did a great job, with tremendous help from the press of course, of taking over those monikers so that they can be intolerant in the name of tolerance. It's a good scam.
You go girl!

Do you know who I miss? S.I. Hayakawa. It was really sweet back when he was SFSU pres and Reagan was gov. Ah, those were the days!
Pictures? we got pictures...(thanks to Frontpage, Lee Kaplan and whoever took the pictures)
Is it any wonder that the libs are always calling Republicans "nazis?" It's called projection.
They did the same thing when they affixed the label "progressive" to themselves. If anything, they're more regressive than progressive, and also strangely conservative in their attachment to the status quo (i.e. Bush is a radical!)
This won't be news to most Freepers, but getting it in the San Francisco Chronicle (online) was a bit of a coup!
You can say that again! Dave Horowitz' Frontpagemag.com has been covering these troubles from the beginning. SFSU has become almost a caricature of the manaically leftish campus. The infamous "water buffalo" incident of Penn State eleven years ago has nothing on the outrages that seem to occur on a monthly basis at SFSU. If even the San Francisco Chronicle is getting embarrassed by all this then you know things are getting bad. I wonder just how much SFSU relies on the good offices of its' alumni because these peccadillos are really putting it on the map.
Senator Morrow has introduced a much-needed Student Bill of Rights into the Senate this year. If we are committed to academic freedom and debate then we should support this bill. Universities all work to obtain diversity except when it comes to conservative ideas and speech. Let's rally behind this bill and see if we can get it passed.
...the Trustees of the California State University and the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges are hereby directed to, develop guidelines and implement the following principles of the Student Bill of Rights:
(1) Students shall be graded solely on the basis of their reasoned answers and appropriate knowledge of the subjects and disciplines they study, not on the basis of their political or religious beliefs.
(2) Curricula and reading lists in the humanities and social sciences shall respect the uncertainty and unsettled character of all human knowledge in these areas, and provide students with dissenting sources and viewpoints. While teachers are and should be free to pursue their own findings and perspectives in presenting their views, they should consider and make their students aware of other viewpoints. Academic disciplines should welcome a diversity of approaches to unsettled questions
(3) Exposing students to the spectrum of significant scholarly viewpoints on the subjects examined in their courses is a major responsibility of faculty. Faculty shall not use their courses or their positions for the purpose of political, ideological, religious, or anti-religious indoctrination.
(4) The selection of speakers, allocation of funds for speakers' programs, and other student activities shall observe the principles of academic freedom and promote intellectual pluralism.
(5) An environment conducive to the civil exchange of ideas being an essential component of a free university, the obstruction of invited campus speakers, the destruction of campus literature, or any other effort to obstruct this exchange shall not be tolerated.
Just incase you didn't get pinged.
Hey! Nice placement! When I first clicked on the article I just assumed it was ChronWatch. In related news, the other day I picked up a copy of MESH, a magazine put out by present and former SFSU students and others (so far as I can tell). Inside was a huge black-and-white photo of some SFSU students "confronting" the College Republicans and being restrained from violence by a bunch of cops. It still amazes me that these fascists can't see the irony of their intolerance on behalf of tolerance. What a bunch of scum!

IIRC, SFSU's reputation for intolerance stretches back 40 years. And San Francisco may be one of the nation's most leftwing cities, but it is certainly not one of the nation's most tolerant.
When I attended, they were very tolerant about teaching evolution as a religion, humanism, communism, globalism, socialism, sex and occult.
Me too!
Thanks--we're slowly taking over!
They should change their name to STFU because that sums up their attitude toward anyone who disagrees with them.
